My attempt at humor failed, it was a dig at Minnesota. Carry on with your coach search, I will show my way out.

He interviewed with Minnesota in 2007 and got passed over for Tim Brewster.

I miss Tim Brewster.

I think Emery wants Trestman but the other 2 are safer hires. The general public is going to be 40/60 at best on Trestman from day 1 and the other guys probably 75/25.

I think you're being optimistic. I expect a full-on meatball explosion on getting a geeky-looking guy from the CFL. There will be many Dick Jauron references.

People will bitch no matter who Emery hires until that coach wins in the playoffs.

That just isn't true. We'd all be laughing hysterically if the Packers were considering a CFL coach. It just looks terrible and unless he's a hidden gem that everyone missed it's a pretty bad hire.

The CFL is closer to the Arena League than it is the NFL.

On the Tribune web poll, Arians and Trestman are currently in a statistical dead heat as the leading choices for the Bears head coaching position among fans. Bevell is a distant third.

It's very difficult to argue that Trestman is a hidden gem given his extensive NFL employment history and the fact that he's been considered--but not hired--for several NFL positions over the past few years.

The overall positivity on Trestman is blowing me away. Seems as every media member on Twitter has nothing but great things to say about him. All the "expert" call ins to the sports radio shows love him. Just seeing responses on Twitter from fans is staggering.

Can't say I understand where the fan positivity is coming from, but I'm glad everyone that knows him/works with him gives him a glowing review.

Sounds like Bevell is a church-going bible-thumper? I move him to the top of the list.

Those are good questions. But I don't have any confidence in getting answers to those if he is hired.

Brick, was Trestman up for college position that he got passed over for?

He pushed to get the Gophers job.

Your wording is hilarious. He "pushed" to get the job? What's the difference between "pushing" and interviewing? I would suggest most people who interview for a job, want it.

Sean Jensen thinks there may be a wildcard yet.

Using media connections to float your name as a candidate is one difference.

No, its 100% true. I'm sure SOME people were bitching about Jauron and Lovie. People would bitch about Holmgren, Cowher, or Gruden. People will bitch about McCoy or Bevell or whoever the new coach ends up being.

Says he interviewed in 2007:

The only bitching about McCoy will be because SD just hired him and not the bears.

I didn't realize you meant literally at least two people will bitch about the coach. Sorry.

You know as well as I do that there will be a certain percentage of the fanbase that will not be happy with the new coaching hire. Even if its only 10%, it still means that "people will bitch no matter who Emery hires."

People would bitch about McCoy. It would be less than if Trestman is hired. But there will be people bitching no matter what.

I will be starting an obligatory "Fire" thread no matter who is hired.
