sad statement that his thread gets three pages. Shakes has moved up the manly man list for his correct analysis. I gave it 15 minutes after Stern's rant. Boring as fuck.

and yes, that woman is below average even outside the actress world

Yeah, but how many scions of wealth and fame were on those shows? Boom, bitch

Come on, CH. Any guy who plays drums on "All Right Now" should be able to get his daughter in a Tom Cruise movie. A mediocre HBO sitcom is shooting low.

My favorite is the little Jewish virgin. I met her uncle at a party recently. He's a professional arranger and pianist. He wanted silence when he began to play at this party. I'm like, "Dude, it's a fucking cocktail party, not a concert." He was cool though.

Yeah. His younger brother is a friend of a friend. A bunch of guys at this party all went to Francis Parker together. I was at the party representing for the working class.

Also, her mom is the girlfriend from Slapshot who was also the female lead in the great underrated House of Games.

The GF loves it. I find it mildly amusing. Not a bad show, but not great either....an awkward comedy.

Complete chick comedy, if it was not written by a female, they would have never made the show!

When a show needs to rely on the backstory, it needs to go away. The horse racing mini series they had on HBO? Was all time bad and they pushed that thing like it was the next Sopranos. Sucked

John in Cinncinnati was worse than the horse show but I see what you are saying. I will defend HBO in that
they seem to have a pretty good track record overall. Most shows make it at least 2 seasons which is better
than network TV.

The wife likes it, and it's not so horrible that I can't sit through it for thirty minutes. There are enough tits and ass to keep me somewhat interested. The dialogue is pretty good, but ultimately, it's just a bunch of idiots complaining all the time, especially the guys. The dude with the broken leg seemed like a player in the beginning, but he is just a needy baby. The ex-boyfriend of the chick that won't show her jugs, is a sac-less Caller Bob. The least annoying of the guys is the gay dude.

I think I wrote this before but it's pretty clear that the men are all written with serious personality issues and as the character develops it is only more accentuated. Even now, the guy who found a new girlfriend is constantly treated like garbage by his new one and just takes it. Meanwhile, all the girls, many of whom have virtually no personality whatsoever, are constantly treated like they are interesting and fun and heroic for overcoming the horror of the mundane life challenges they have(I have to bring pain medication to someone, the guy I dumped is dating someone!, the guy I slept with didn't want to get married!).

Ultimately, this is a show about how men are dumb and stupid and women, despite living dumb and stupid lives are not.

my 15 minutes of viewing didn't reveal this but is this show proposing with a straight face that the unattractive enodomorph is finding partners regularly who stick around for more than a night? If so, it is obviously a woman's show with no basis in reality.

My gf watches this, have. Only seen 20 minutes. Or so not horrible but not good...the main character is ugly, well below average and strips often...which is disturbing.

The horse racing show was not bad, better than a lot of bad shows on HBO like flight of the condor's or treme.

Agreed, you have to get the jokes on Flight of the Conchords. If it isn't your kind of humor you won't get it.
Treme is one of the better dramatic shows they have had on HBO in the last 10 years.

I was only referencing HBO shows, and if you use that criteria than Treme is easily in the top 10
shows on HBO in the last 10 years. Others include The Wire, Deadwood, Sopranos, Curb Your
Enthusiasm and Game of Thrones just off the top of my head.

 It was a shame they killed him off so early in the season. I heard they may do some flashing back
to end the season and if they do I hope he gets a few scenes, although they have so much to wrap up and only
half a season to do it so I am not counting on it.

I was more entertained by that one season of Luck than I have been by three of Treme.

Well to each their own. Although it hasn't been the quickest moving series I have really enjoyed the actors
and the development of the characters and how they intertwine. The music has been phenomenal.

The slow-moving plot is the common complaint, but beyond that, when there is development, it has no subtlety at all. See for instance the worst example of this from last season, "Davis and Annie are having problems in their relationship and we'll show you at least two scenes of tense exchanges and awkward silences for the last 6 episodes to convey this!!!"

I will admit there is a little bit of that. I am not sure if it is because there are so many characters and they think
you will forget about it so they hit you over the head with it or what. If this was a soap opera that shit would be
knocked out in a week ( essentially 5 episodes ). I have invested a lot of time into the series so I am going to
try to enjoy the last 1/2 season. I can understand why some people wouldn't want to stick with it.

I haven't seen Flight of the Chonchords, but I definitely agree that Treme is a great show. Its ability to present post-Katrina New Orleans society in all of its complexity while still developing compelling individual characters and personal narratives is pretty remarkable. Plus the music on that show is phenomenal. It is a worthy successor to The Wire, still the greatest show in the history of television (even if HBO claims to be something other than that) for my money.

As I explained above and earlier in this thread I have seen the show enough to know it sucks.

The wife and I gave it a shot, but it wasn't funny, clever, hip or anything of the sort. It was annoying, banal, idiotic and tiresome and I wanted all of the characters to die in horrible, gut wrenching ways.
