It helps give the company an idea if you might be a fuck-up. Makes sense to me.

I disagree with that whole premise.

I dont think someone who smokes marijuana is necessarily a fuck up.

I dont think the company should have any say in what you do on your own time. If you do the job you do the job, if you dont, you dont.

Also, many of the drugs that would be red flags for employment are the hardest to test.

So bacially, Cocaine Guy or Acid guy or Crack guy just needs to abstain for a day or two and he's all good for testing. Meanwhile the guy who smoked half a joint two weeks ago on a weekend is deemed unfit for work.

Piss test unfairly target marijuana smokers. I know several coke heads n alcoholics who are fuck ups...they just piss clean.

actually kinda agree with this....really weed is the only drug that stays in your system for an appreciable amount of time
if you fail a drug test because of coke , you've got serious issues

Medical usage is legal in 16 states. Recreational usage is legal in Washington and Colorado only.

I didn't say necessarily. The job can decide to hire said person even with a failed drug test, if they want to. But our best and brightest in society aren't usually the ones tokin.

Companies don't want their employees participating in illegal activities. I think that is within their right to decide. If blood tests were easier / cheaper, I'm sure they would test for opiates and cocaine just the same.

That's just silly.

False assumption brought on by years of being infected with "Reefer Madness" type propaganda.

So, in your world, the best and brightest dont smoke, but they DO drink right?

Richard Branson, Michael Phelps, Bill Maher, Steven King, and Ted Turner are all gonna be upset to find out they arent part of our "best and brightest"

Marijuana is a Schedule I controlled substance. That card doesn't mean a thing if the federal government decided they didn't want you to do any of the three actions you listed. They would laugh in your face.

Do you think that is a legitimate classification?

I'm sorry but if a man or woman is on welfare and does not pay the same taxes that I have to why should they the freedom to smoke weed and do drugs and I'm not. I can't do drugs without the fear of losing my job due to a random drug test yet they can sit around and collect money of my taxes?

I would love to be able to come home and smoke weed but I can't so they shouldn't be able to either without fear of losing their welfare check.

You shouldn't have to fear losing your job.

The DB is for the assumption of hypocrisy in the statement, though

Take Bill Maher out of the "Best and Brightest" category.

You're really going to put him in a list with Richard Branson and Steven King?

Or be prepared to pass a test, as I am.

Curious to see IMU's response to this.

We also haven't had a President in the White house in 20 years who didn't get high. I thought people were more educated these days than to still throw around the potheads = fuckups stereotype.

Because they like to make sure their drivers are not partaking in drug use. The insurance liability is through the roof already with having so many drivers on staff so I'm sure providing a drug free workplace helps ease that cost.

If there is a workplace accident any of us could be drug tested.

It's not that much different than if there was an automobile accident.

Although I suppose the illusion of a drug free workplace helps insurance costs too

The type of living that I provide for my family right now more than makes up for the fact that I'm not able to smoke weed.

Alright...Michael Phelps is a swimmer, Bill Maher is a comedian, and Stephen King is 1) a writer and 2) sober for decades.

No astrophysicists there...

Carl Sagan
Astronomer, astrophysicist, cosmologist, pothead.

Look, the best and the brightest comment is just really bad and pretty naive. I wont argue it anymore. If that's what you believe, that's your business.

BINGO...

If I were to get into an accident in a truck at work and kill someone and than go take a piss test and it comes back with all sorts of fucked up drugs in my system my company can say "We subjected Chris to a random drug test on Jan 15th and he came back clean, therefore we should be free from any liability".

Make a list of the dumbest pot smokers on the board and the smartest pot smokers on the board. Then do it for alcohol and we'll see.

Do you think that is a legitimate classification?

Sure. After verifying how they classify different substances, I see no issue with it. Without having the medical knowledge to do the research myself...others have already done that and concluded it slots in as a Schedule I.

The gov't says it's so, and that's good enough for you?

The funny thing is those drivers are hopped up on Xanax or other prescription. Drugs that are far more dangerous, or drinking red bull or five hour energy.
