Arians is pretty much the NFL coach of the year. How often do you get someone like that without having to surrender anything? He has experience dealing with and devloping some of the top QB in the league. He worked with respected NFL offensive minds. Yes, his hiring would excite me.

What Bruce Arians did with the Colts during Chuck Pagano's absence due to recovery from leukemia was very remarkable. As much as Pagano doesn't want Arians to leave, I think he'd be happy if Arians was the choice to become the Bears' next head coach.

I thought Arians cancelled the Philly interview because the assumption was Brian Kelly would be hired there.

No, it was supposed to be today or tomorrow I believe. News broke of the cancellation in the last 24 hours (this morning, IIRC).

So where else is Arians a candidate?

As a Packer fan, he's the only one of the three that I really want the Bears to hire.

I want the guy who knows the most about defense. I'm sick of coaches that only know one side of the ball.

I agree. A qb guru who is going to hold Jay's hand. You also go from a locker room that loved their coach so its going to be hard for them to get behind a guy who has spent the last 5 years commanding a team of guys who couldn't make an NFL practice squad.

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
As it turns out, Colts OC Bruce Arians is in Chicago today, a third finalist for Bears HC job.

Schefter is usually better about not reporting stuff that's been out for over a day.

The bigger problem than a Trestman hire is Emery's stated commitment to Cutler. He has no interest in being coached and lacks a fundamental understanding of how to play the NFL game.

I think that's been the thrust of the entire search. Cutler is getting an extension.

I agree. And I believe Emery has made a foolish decision.

I wonder if McCoy told Emery that he would want to replace Cutler? If he did, he would be correct & should be the new Bears coach. I don't understand how an entire organization can gear itself around a mediocre QB like Jay & continually bend over backwards for him. Everyone knows what Jay is & what he isn't. The Bears would be smart to draft a couple of QB's & part ways with Jay.

Draft a QB at 20? Take a look a who will be there. Not really an option. No free agents either. Too many holes to try to move up, and to be honest, no QB worth moving up for.

Remember where Jay ranked last year. He isn't an elite talent. There are 2nd string QB's who could do what Jay did last year.

I should have given Terry credit for breaking news today.

He was going over the candidates with Bernsie and he said in passing that McCoy was quickly passed by because he said he was not a fan of Cutler. I thought that was a pretty big deal but of course the boys kept right on going.

That makes me think McCoy might know his shit.

I wonder if Lovie is still negotiating his extension...

Point taken......But I was very curious how McCoy, who Emery was all over, was so quickly out of the picture. This would make sense.

Possibility, but no evidence to suggest it. In no way possible does Boers have a McCoy insider. That bit of info didn't leak to Twitter... No way it got to Terry Boers.

That said, someone did say Arians preferred SD due to Rivers.

For no particular reason that I can cite, I happen to prefer Trestman.

When was Emery all over McCoy?

Mully said that he heard Emery sent out the paperwork to talk to McCoy before Lovie was actually fired.

And that translates to being "all over him"?

Yea, I mean based on what we know... He could have done that for 25 coaches.

Yes to me it does. If you're requesting to talk to a candidate for an NFL head coaching job before you've fired the guy currently in the position, I'd say you're pretty excited about the candidate.

Did I miss the CSFMB "Define all over him" symposium?

Do you know who else he requested that day? I actually think Schefter said "multiple" requests. Not positive.

IOW you got nothing but strange speculation. Got it.

And who is to say he liked him before, but not after the interview. Might not have mixed well together.

I just saw this on Jensen's blog:

"McCoy was a Bears candidate, but I don't think the club was seriously considering him. As I suggested in the past, I think there may have been some murky issues between McCoy and two players on the roster who played under him in Denver, Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler. The quarterback, of course, only lasted a few weeks with him while Marshall played one season under McCoy before he was traded to the Miami Dolphins"

Never mind. I'll go back to sleep now.
