The other awkward thing about Trestman that I haven't seen anyone bring up is that his offense is exactly what you don't want Jay Cutler running -- a system reliant upon consistent accuracy and quick decisions. If the Bears are double down on Cutler, I'd do it full-assed.

Would it be even slightly shocking if a guy like Trestman were (yeah, I think were is the correct word here) looking to draft his own QB to mold if not this year then certainly next year?

This draft might be a little difficult because of the reduction in picks, but I fully expect to hear he is scouting QBs at the all star games and combine.

Take it in another direction, wouldn't Alex Smith be a good fit for a west coast offense. Cutler would certainly bring them some draft picks to rebuild the line. Could you get the Chiefs to give you Joekel for Cutler straight up?

I don't know about that one. That's one hell of a find, though. I just found a press release that said it was an agreement between the Bears and CBS, not the Bears and WBBM, with a Bears presence on every CBS Radio station. Maybe they'll have Marc Trestman on with Terri Hemmert to discuss his favorite Replacements and Husker Du songs.
