So far, not many dramatic changes.

Wait until maximizing public funding or somebody gets killed there. Whichever comes first.

Arlington Heights/Schaumburg is looking better everyday. For a Cubs stadium, not to live there, eww gross. :P

If Rahm or Aderman Bakery Boy and his beloved Rooftop owners make one peep about having to review this and "landmarks", the next day Ricketts needs to have a presser with the Mayor of Schaumburg. If he's gonna use his own money to renovate his own stadium which is the entire reason that area exists, then let him do it his way or go fuck yourselves.

Refurbished facade: hell yes. Everyone loves the sign and The Corner Of Clark And Addison, but the cyclone fencing in front of ramps always looked trashy to me. I believe I've called for them to put up some wrought iron or something nice instead. I like this.

Concourses: looks good to me, but all that really matters to me with a concourse at Wrigley is that you can get to your seat. Let's be real here, the Cubs don't exactly need to devote their interior to honoring their years of legends and championships. Just have good access, or as good as it can be with 30,000 bodies bustling through.

Improved player facilities: self-evident

Left field patio: the sightlines look like they'd be shit, but if you insist... (and we know it won't say "Wrigley Field," it'll say "Macy's" or "Charles Schwab" or "Cock Ring Warehouse")

Left field LED: I don't like it any more than I like the one in right, but at least it lends symmetry to a bad idea.

As for the city, the neighborhood, the Rickettses, and other powers that be: they need to realize Wrigleyville is a symbiotic relationship. The park is the neighborhood and the neighborhood is the park. It may take the neighborhood to be a voice of reason and say that too many night games or too much advertising will, in addition to spoiling their quality of life, compromise the atmosphere that people come to take in in the first place. At the same time, the neighborhood owes itself to the Cubs, and shutting down everything they suggest is just as much a case of golden-goose-icide as papering the joint in tacky ads and flashing lights. So I hope both sides can work together constructively. That the public won't be asked to finance it anymore should help a lot in that regard.

When are they going to replace that old score board w/ a cool jumbotron? I need to hear AC/DC blasting through the speakers to feel the ambiance of a baseball game!

My Great-Grandparents bought a 2 flat on Clark Street across the street from Nuts on Clark (used to be a Dry Cleaner there) when it was new. The neighborhood was great and that was before Wrigley Field was built. It was considered part of the LakeView neighborhood then. Over time, the neighborhood deteriorated greatly. In the 70's there was gang graffiti (mostly Latin Kings and Latin Eagles) all over that neighborhood. It was a bit dangerous to walk the streets at night there in the 70's. Then 1984 came along, with Ryne Sandberg and co. making it quite fashionable/fun to go to Cubs games again (Dallas Green did a great job putting a winner together quickly). They sold a lot more tickets and the extra money going into not only the ballpark, but bars and resturants in the neighborhood caused wonderful changes. The 2 flats that had been selling in the 30-40,000 dollar range became gold mines. Rents went up dramatically and the fiff raff (not the one menacing Sweet Polly Purebred in Underdog, the real kind) moved out. Lots of new bars and resturants opened and the whole area got scrubbed down and dressed up. The neighborhood was developed at that point, in response to the needs of the fans visiting the park. It's not like it was all there and fans just took advantage of the bars/resturants that were already there. People go there for the games. They stay, because it's more convenient to go to a resturant/bar for a while after a game, than to sit in traffic, trying to go home right away. Have a few more beers and a meal and by the time you are done, traffic is more manageable.

One change they need to be sure to make, is to extend the park a bit more towards Clark street (make the foul area larger) so that a full sized Football field can be utilized within the ballpark. Then, every year college football games could be played there, with teams like Illinois, Northwestern and perhaps even Notre Dame, making use of the park in the fall to bring in additional revenue.

The plan looks like a good one, that will keep the integrity of the original design intact.

That is a brilliant idea Steve, because there sure as hell won't be any baseball games played there in October anytime soon.

You should call every show on both stations and share your geniusness.

They should just buy the entire rooftop block and then shut off the street but keep it a street and make it "inside the grounds" so you can drink on the street just like new orleans.

Imagine if the Tribune had had the foresight to buy up the homes on Waveland and/or Sheffield. They'd have the rooftops and office space.

I would say more common sense than brilliant. Ensuring that the facility has the opportunity to generate as many differring streams of revenue just makes sense. Having end zones less than regulation in size creates problems they should look to eliminate.

You know what you should do ??....shampoo my crotch.

As far as post-season games at Wrigley, those will begin in a couple years and should be a very regular occurrence thereafter.
