A guy just called who wasn't thrilled with Shea McCellin's play this season and Dan jumped to McCellin's defense, quickly followed by Laurence. Can people who listen more often clarify something? I don't know what Dan's opinion of McClellin has been this season but I could have sworn I heard Laurence saying less than flattering things about his play this season.

I will give Laurence credit for attempting to legitimately answer the questions of several callers after Bernsie acted like a dismissive, disinterested little brat.

I don't hear anybody deifying Ray Lewis. Rey Lewis simply seemingly has an internal radar that directs him to the nearest microphone and camera. He's getting coverage, but I don't think anybody in the media has said, "Hey what a great man and role model." I haven't heard that. Any accolades I've seen in the media have been for his play on the field. Everybody knows there's a huge elephant in the room when it comes to Lewis. None of the analysts are dumb enough to even approach the "Ray Lewis is a great guy" angle.

I kinda saw it the same. Btw, what the hell was he doing at mid field kissing the ground after the game?

Hey Gottlieb, that's how a person with some talent does a CBS Sports minute.

It was a bit off camera but Tony Dungy was walking by.

I don't suspect I could have phrased either post any better myself. Well done.

And again...

I think you and Brogue are reacting to something that hasn't, and likely won't, happen in the next two weeks.

Maybe not the analysts, they're smarter than that, but given two weeks, I'm sure some stupid, "jump on the bandwagon" columnist will write this story.

I sure do hope you're right, but seeing that I'm essentially always right - and it is a burden, I can tell you - I think we'll all be disappointed.

Jim Rome proving that it IS possible to do a CBS Sports Minute without word vomiting all over your shirt. Take notes, Gottlieb.

Bernstein has been an asshole to everyone on the show so far except Buffone.

As someone remarked earlier, Laurence has softened the tone of the show and has made it more listenable as a result.

It seems like Laurence is showing signs that he's capable of stepping outside Bernstein's shadow.

While he likes to talk about his contacts around the league, and how many sources he has, not to mention his work at NBC, I think Holmes has been taking a softer approach for some time. I think, of late, he's been more interested in being that slow talking, insightful type (even though when he does this, he often says something fairly obvious to most people except himself).

I agree that he's trying to change his persona, especially when he's paired with Bernstein. He's not as sycophantic as he used to be--he actually snapped at Dan a couple of times today--and is trying to articulate some "independent" thoughts. While his changes haven't been entirely successful thus far, I give him credit for attempting to improve his on-air presentation.

I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that Laurence is more than likely the one to replace Terry sooner than later. If he can break free from parroting Dan and develop his own second banana personality, I think this pairing could work for the future. Some of his dorky shtick I can deal with, but he has to lose that "hot head, ima punch someone" persona. He's definitely more tolerable when he's partnered up with someone, and if he can neutralize some of Dan's pouty douchiness, that makes for a better listen than the bully pulpit/strawman shit Dan and Terry default to far too often.

Today he did ok with some of the callers. Wanting to have the dialogue rather than just dismissive as Dan gets. You can tell a meatball or otherwise stupid caller they are wrong in many different ways.

That can't be right. Holmes is supposed to be at SoxFest Friday night broadcasting the first of 3 straight SCORE live broadcasts from the Palmer House Hilton this weekend. That includes the team of Mark Grote & the Chris Chelios-looking Mike Esposito, subbing for the Trib's Steve Rosenbloom, from 8A-Noon & "White Sox Weekly" with Chris Rongey from Noon-2:45P Saturday leading into DePaul basketball. Finally, a special edition of "Hit & Run" with Spiegs & the Daily Herald's Barry Rozner wraps up SportsRadio 670 The SCORE's SoxFest coverage from 8A-Noon Sunday.

Nobody said that Leery is going to do B&B Friday.

Replacing Boers with Loho would be a big mistake. I would love to see Berns paired with either Rosey or Rozner...each would challenge Dan, something Terry hasn't done in years. If Mitch wants to get real crazy, go 3 Man with all 3!

Les has made a decent career in the industry embracing his dorky schtick side. Sir is essentially chocolate Les, but in denial.

Yeah, Laurence is definitely in denial about his dorkiness. And he really needs to tone down his attempts at self-aggrandizement (the constant NBC-5 mentions, pointless stories about interacting with Cheryl Scott, etc), but I like the fact that he wants to bring information to his listeners. He does a lot of good interviews with beat writers and broadcasters from around the country; B&B are often too lazy to do that.
