Its incredibly rare for us to have below zero temps with no snow on the ground. If there was snowcover here, the overnight low temps would likely be near -15 or -20.

Still, this arctic blast is only going to last about 48 hours.

Everyone forgot how to drive already. Traffic is crazy out there...At least an inch of snow at 6:10 this morning in Mundelein. Probably closer to 1.5"-2" now.

Same here just over the border in Canada. Light and fluffy snow with ice patches underneath. I don't envy
anyone driving in this morning. I feel lucky to start work so early. Never ceases to amaze me how people
here at work can't park without the lines on the ground. Cars all over, actually a tight fit to get out of
certain rows. People park in essentially the same spot everyday and can't figure it out.

So, we had some pretty intense rain and a bit of lightning tonight.
Not bad. Tomorrow should be heavy rain and more thunder. Since the ground is frozen, it's all gonna run off into my neighbor's kitchen. Neat.

I went to a neighbor's home tonight due to something I haven't seen in seven years. Just wanted to make sure they were all good. The flooding, combined with ice and hail, was a thing.

The recent warm up and rain is going to cause a bit of havoc on the downstream communities...those near rivers, lakes, and streams, combined sewer communities and the like. (You're fucked Wilmette and Kenilworth...)

The frost depth was down to about 8" or so. The recent warmup has saturated the ground. Now we are getting 1-2" of rain.
This could be very problematic. Flood watches in effect...

10 o'clock news last night had snow totals for us at over 5 inches by this evening. New forecast is 1-3 inches.
My prediction? Nothing, maybe a dusting of snow. The weather people have been way off base predicting my
neck of the woods all season.

9-10 inches in the south central and western part of the state. Maybe 1/2" here, I can still see the grass.
This is like the 4th time we missed a storm this season. I am not complaining but would rather get it
now rather than in April.
