They. Can't. Guard. Screen. Roll

Lots of sternly spoken basketball talk today, as well as obnoxious, hysterical laughter by the professor. Should be a bad show today!

They should snag, with a butterfly net, ANYONE who doesn't dive for the stop/power/station button when they hear Larry's voice on the radio. Jesus H. Christ, that guy is just radio poison. How in the hell he CONTINUES to be on the air, anywhere, is one of life's great mysteries.

Here's hoping Terry's crab removal treatments are over and he's back soon.

CTE talk now and Paterno talk to come, combined with Larry makes up the trifecta of radio misery. I'd rather entertain myself this afternoon and go unclog a stubborn drain.

The CTE talk is actually kind of interesting. If the test as I heard it can determine if a player has CTE, the league could in effect end their career. That could have a pretty dramatic impact on certain teams with HOF type players. Also, it could be a great way for a team to jettison a player they need to dump. It will be interesting to see how the players union and league decide to approach this new test if it turns out to be a success.

I don't know about that, but after the break and another John Feinstein gem in the hourly "CBS Sports Minute", 670 The SCORE Baseball Analyst Steve Stone actually talks some hot stove with Bernstein & Holmes, just a few days before SoxFest at the Palmer House this weekend.

I'll credit DB for bringing CTE forward (at least for me) but his "popular" approach leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Witness the professor who called in to bring clarification to current testing methods, or the conclusion from the report DB cited "Conclusions: The small sample size and lack of autopsy confirmation warrant larger, more definitive studies, but if future research confirms these initial findings, FDDNP-PET may offer a means for premorbid identification of neurodegeneration in contact-sports athletes.

The study can be found at http://www.espn.go.com/pdf/2013/0122/espn_otl_CTELiving.pdf

I don't know if that guy was really a neurosurgeon or not, but he made my day by calling Laurence Jonathan.

As did Larry getting audibly pissed at it.

Seemed to me that the Doc rained on Dan's party. Still a long way to go before THIS. IS. IMPORTANT.

Jimmy Piersall: "Who the hell is he?"

Seriously, while Derrick took some more contact, The SCORE's David Schuster is supposed to check in from the Berto Center in Deerfield to discuss that and Luol Deng NOT practicing again today. He could miss his third straight game vs. the Pistons tomorrow with the nagging hamstring injury.

Did he preface the CTE discussion with a breaking news? Dan shouldn't be allowed to look at twitter during broadcasts.

That is clearly his belief. Having never been in the locker room myself, I am not sure but would guess he wouldn't get squat.

i just got a text from the score (67011)

BREAKING: The Score's Laurence Holmes reports that he likes walking more than running. The Score's Dan Bernstein confirms, also wishes that swimming didn't involve water. Tune in to 670 The Score or go to 670thescore.com for detaills. Reply NOBRK to opt-out.

also, jim rome on the CBS sports minutes is clown college. The original batch tried to be all intellectual and have some sort of a point/message. jim rome is here to talk smack in a skip bayless world.

UH... UH... UH.... * PHLEGM * SAY WHAT? SAY WHAT? WHAT'S WRONG WITH ALL THE HATERS?!?! THEY LYING!! THEY LYING!! [unintelligible/who cares] </espnFirstTakeIntro>

Previous segment I couldn't stop picturing Bernstein complaining as Mort Goldman thanks to RPB.

Also, I agree with Bernstein about swimming. The being wet shit is annoying.

Ahh the ubiquitous gym regimen talk that follows after professional sports injury talk. I do so love that. Crack fix for the day: completed.

If you remember when "Beavis & Butt-Head" danced to certain videos on their MTV show a few years ago, I can only imagine what Laurence is doing as "Everybody Everybody" by Black Box plays in the background in "The Second Half" right now...

Rack 'em.

Seriously, how many times do we gotta hear doctor beerstine regale us about THE PEOPLE'S KNEE INJURY™®© in relation to professional sports injuries/rehabs.

Yeah, Dan has a body that makes Adonis cry and his rec league games were the stuff of legend and lore, but still, #comeonson on twitter; there's a big difference between guys who armor up once a week to play casually and professional athletes whose bodies are million dollar businesses in and of themselves.

That and, duh, the extra muscle in their legs that makes them superior in every sport except hockey. Duh. That muscle is hockey's veritable Alameda blvd in terms of hockey race relations.

BTW I'm sure I prolly fucked up the big street in LA that traditionally was the border between "their" neighborhoods and all of the good old fashioned god fearing freedom loving apple pies and Chevrolet Americans. Shomer shabbos! * pounds table *
