Did anyone else hear Laurence's hypocrisy about the Rooney Rule? He inferred the Bears didn't interview a real candidate in Keith Armstrong. He proceeded to say if a team does an interview with someone like Lovie Smith, it shows you're serious because he's a serious candidate. He proceeded to say the real point of the Rooney Rule is to give opportunity to new talent.

Caught that. Also heard Hub refer to Asians as "Orientals". Which is racist, but he's Hub so Larry and Bernstein didn't say anything to him.

I'd argue that Lovie is actually a less serious candidate than an extant coordinator/position coach because you know and he knows that he can make the same money by sitting at home, which makes it more likely to be a perfunctory affair.

Tim Brown's been bitching about the Callahan and the Super Bowl for years. Hub entertaining the notion that he just came out with this to get Hall of Fame votes is as usual nonsensical and undermines his expert status once again.

The best was when the guy called up and basically said "I think the dearth of black NFL head coaches has a lot to do with race."

Fuck the word "dearth" it sounds like the opposite of what it actually means.

It's a shame that "Orientals" is a semi-verboten word because it captures something that no other word does. I understand why it is frowned upon, though.

Technically, the Orient refers to the Middle East, particularly around Persia (as in the We Three Kings). "East Asian" would be a more accurate designation than just "Asian," but we're too far gone by now.
