One of Bernstien's principal reasons for liking the Epstien hiring that was some ambiguous belief that Epstien would be the bridge between Ricketts and Emmanuel in bringing about city financing to a renovation deal. I have not seen Epstien's involvement in any part of this initiative. "My sources" haven't heard of his back room pushing for this deal. In fact, it seems like the matter is being handled principally by the much hated and decidedly un Epstien Crane Kenney.

Very true. Swing and a miss by Bernstein.

A gentile GM would have gotten money from the mayor.

Dan is attributing it to Theo Epstein and Julian Green, but not in any way more substantive than "one is Jewish and the other is black, ergo, a deal got done." The deal is "we'll spend money we didn't get from you and you'll mostly let us." Some deal!

I don't remember if he wrote it or just spoke it, but I know he said something with regard to Green along the lines of "it's about time the Cubs brought a little flavor to their grey flannel boardroom." Flavor! And maybe some rhythm or soul, too. How lucky can one guy be...

You could have brought a six year old child in to tell Rahm that the Cubs were going to pay for everything themselves. It isn't exactly what I'd call a negotiation. Herb Cohen is rolling in his grave.

Right. It was like Michael Corleone talking to the Nevada Senator.

Senator Pat Geary: I want your answer and the money by noon tomorrow. And one more thing. Don't you contact me again, ever. From now on, you deal with Turnbull.

Michael Corleone: Senator? You can have my answer now, if you like. My final offer is this: nothing. Not even the fee for the gaming license, which I would appreciate if you would put up personally.

but the thing is, I don't think Epstien is even in the room for this discussion, not that there has been any discussion for six months

-there has been no movement with the alderman
-the mayor is still not taking there calls

the only thing that has happened is the Cubs sending out smoke signals and hoping someone in power will pay attention...but Epstien is not the one sending out the signals...Bernstien's back room of the synaogouge theory was incorrect

He went on a run trying to explain this the other day that essentially boiled down to this

"We got some good Jews on this thing, but sometimes, even Jews cant get the job done, but they've learned from it, and that's good."

I feel so awful about this but I don't think there's a Jewish sports executive Dan doesn't like.

Both Holmes and Bernstein did report that their sources (independently) say that Tom Ricketts is a nice guy.

Ricketts is in charge of stadium issues and such, While he gives budget guidance to Epstein and his crew he is not involved in daytoday baseball decisions.

And on the flip side Epstein isn't involved in the stadium issues.

Fact is Ricketts is the wrong political party to get things done. If he gave Emmanuel a nice check under the table he'd have everything he wanted.

Emmanuel openly admitted it when he refused to talk about it because Joe Ricketts was approached about a video about Obama. HE ADMITTED IT WAS ALL POLITICAL! He admitted you cannot question the choseo one you had to worship and grovel at his feet to get things done.

And what makes it even more ridiculous was Joe Ricketts didn't get involved with the video. He was approached.

I give Emmanuel credit for being honest it was all pay for play.

Anyone that doesn't think this was not political should be put in preschool since they have the brains of a 4 year old. Do you honestly think that if he had been approached about a video against Romney they would have denied him anything?

Ricketts should have done a Solyndra and donated 50,000 to Obama and said the Cubs were going to "go green". He would have gotten 500 million.

I <3 stefferoonie. She's the most punk rock poster on the CSFMB. She isn't here to talk with us or foster a discourse about the hot topics of the day; au contraire Mon Frere, she's here to say whatever the fuck she wants to say, rack her, and she's out.

She's like the turd that won't flush. Everyone tries to hate on her and cut her down and rub her nose in her intellectual shortcomings, but she's gonna strut all "haters gonna hate" style and not even bother to hang around and see the trails of conversational destruction she leaves in her magnanimous wake.

Her threads are like condoms: she straps em on, blows her load, then tosses it on our windshield as she puts on her walkman headphones (you know she's got one) and dances away singing along to "dancing with myself" on her STEPH JAMS 1988 mixtape.

Go figure that our board is chock full of vaginal yentas, yet the most consistent female poster here has the biggest set of nads in the place.

CGS, it would seriously make my CSFMB life if you replied to this post with a smiley. Sure you'd lose an ounce of your innate mysticism, but knowing that I know that you know that I know that you know would honestly make me =D more than a nightcap with Kate Upton. Shomer shabbos, miss Shamus, shomer shabbos!

And this my friends is how the democrats keep power in Illinois. Braindead voters who think Obama is God. Can't criticize him.

Only a complete moron doesn't believe that if Ricketts had sucked Obama's dick and groveled at his feet he would have gotten all the money he wanted.

EMMANUEL OPENLY ADMITTED IT!

Laura Ricketts was a VIP guest at the inauguration last week....ooops.

Most big businessmen are not idealogues. They donate to both sides.

Could have sent an email and let Rahms people write the press release the way he wanted it.
