I agree that limiting it to 5 was really tough, but HHJ was an easy choice. The other four were just randomly selected out of a pool of like 15-20 equally qualified posters.

What really happened in the initial voting? Someone went mult crazy ?

What is this like the third time we've had to change a voting process?

I think picking 5 is a shame, that's not what was said

KS, if you need someone to count, I'll volunteer to do it and I'll take myself out of the running if necessary


HHJ should be automatically in and not in this vote.


(Yes, I am fully aware of the irony of telling someone to Get a life and in the same post volunteering to manually tabulate votes for an internet message board hall of fame)

1. 15 to 20 different members all signed on over the course of an hour and it just so happened that nearly every one of them voted for Beardown, Hank Scorpio, Q.Bovifs and SHARK and nobody else.

2. bigfan went into accounts and manipulated the vote. I can assure you, and have been assured, that -that didn't happen.

3. Somebody has the ability to hack into accounts and vote and/or knows some vulnerability about polls and can manipulate them.

4. Some board member has upwards to 30 accounts.

5. Somebody with access to the board, other than the man, manipulated the count.

Whatever the case may be, the only way to get a good, honest vote, was to have it all out in the open.

I needed a cut off somewhere to try and circumvent further abuse, which is why 401 or more posts are needed to vote. If somebody has upwards of 30 accounts, it's doubtful they've posted much in any of them. I realize this affects some innocent and upstanding board members, but it was a decision that had to be made.

I had a sinking feeling something would be amiss as well, so I took a record at two distinct times:

I took the following screenshot at 5:50PM yesterday:

When I went to bed that night, I remember that, for the two highest vote-getters, Q.Bovifs vote total was 40, and Dr. Ken's was 37.

And then I did a copy paste and saved the following as draft message at 8:59am today:

There were indeed several voting irregularities over the 15-hour span. The most egregious were indeed the Q.Bovifs total and the Beardown total, and the RPB and W_Z total seemed quite stable.

incidentally, if you're just gonna do manual write-in ballots, may i suggest that next time you don't even bother with giant voting lists where people have to select X-amount out of X-amount, just have the thread and be like "pick 5-10 people for the hall of fame" and BOOM, you'll have a much more accurate representation of who's actually hall of fame versus who actually wins arbitrary popularity contests relative to whatever seed/bracket/group they're in.

ideally, a hall of fame should be the best of the best.... not just like, the top 10 out of the top 10 out of the top 10 from a total pool of ~75-100 people. how many votes were cast in earlier rounds just because people had 2-3 votes left? that's not HOF material... when you say "pick 5 people from the board for the HOF" and people, unprovoked by any list, pick the first 5 names that come to mind.... that's a damn hall of fame. shomer shabbos!

(also, said method will prevent me from ever having a snocone's chance in speagol's clutches of getting in teh HOF, which is fine by me. sabado gigante!)
