So I'm about 8 or 9 years late to the party on this one but I started watching it this weekend and have burned through about 15 episodes already. I know that people hated the ending so I am putting myself in danger of getting pissed off but I watched the first episode and just got hooked right away.

I have no idea why I didnt watch this show right off the bat, very stupid on my part.

The first 2 seasons are outstanding, everything after that is hit or miss.

Overall, I thought it was a really good TV series, but I'll go back and watch Mash re-runs before I would ever think of watching Lost re-runs.

Honestly, you should just watch the whole series. The first two seasons are some of the best TV of this generation. By finishing, you can join the discussion about how big of a chode JJ Abrams is.

I still think the first scene of Season 2 is one of the best WTF moments in TV history. Overall a very good episode as well, brother.

While you may not be "happy" with the entire series as a whole, there are still some incredible episodes in seasons 3-6. The finale of season 3 is one of the best finales/twists of TV history. Season's 4 "The Constant" is absolutely fantastic storytelling. The season 5 finale "The Incident" is awesome as well. If you are invested in season 1 and 2, keep going. You're going to get some clunkers, but overall it is worth it. People bitch about the ending and not having all the "questions" answered (even though everything did get answered-some just don't like the answers). The series finale is emotionally satisfying on a character level for sure.

No, not all the questions were answered. Which the Lost writers admitted and then released a Lost epilogue to address some of them.

I'll revise that statement to say that every important question was answered. The epilogue answered hardcore fanboy questions like who was making the food drops, what happened to Walt, and the purpose of the hydra animal and room 23 experiments. All these were minute questions that had nothing to do with the purpose of the show. If people were pissed because those questions did not get answered by the finale, then they were not invested in what the show as actually doing.

I could not disagree more. And I am someone who enjoyed the series all the way through, including the finale. And all the while, the producers of the show repeatedly swore that every plot was mapped out from the start, even to the point where they criticized other peoples' works for leaving loose ends.

And so, to turn that around and blame the viewers for being nitpicky over-obsessed fanboys, is a not-so-clever attempt at misdirection. The show has plot holes, period. To what degree you choose to overlook them is up to each viewer. But to shift the blame to the fans, and say they don't understand what the show is about, is just wrong. I understand the show. And it's great. But the producers created a tangled plot that they couldn't completely untangle. It's as simple as that.

For a story that appeared to be allegorical... it turned out to be a soap opera. They did a diservice to the show by promising resolution. It was a good (not great show) in terms of character development... but they did perfect the "art of the cliffhanger". It's just that a show whose hook is a cliffhanger basically gets tired after awhile. Just my three cents.

I was a late join to the Lost phenomenon. I started watching it weekly on TV starting in Season 3, so I watched Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD. I probably made it through the first two season in a week. What other shows over the last 20 years have that kind of marathon watch appeal? Maybe 24, Sopranos, and a few others. So I say again, the first two seasons are some of the best TV of this generation. You would finish an episode and would just want to see more and more.
