This show was long overdue. I entered the 10C drawing for tickets as soon as I saw this was happening. I wonder if they'll make like many of the other acts that play Wrigley and announce a second show after this first one sells out in 12 seconds. Second date or not, the nice thing about this show is that there won't be an opener, just 3 hours of PJ.

I read that some country guy Jason Aldean has a concert there the next night so it will be a one and done show.

Thumbing was great acoustic in that setting. Its a great song with one of my fav lines (all the rusted signs...). Just didn't click well when I heard it live. Didn't have the same emotion and impact I expected. Like when I originally heard Black live. Has the same feeling of that driving ballad, but when you hear Black live, the emotion is there for the ride of the song. Just wasn't there for Thumbing.

 Uh....Riot Act sucks. Backspacer was pretty good, and Avocado was better.

Given that this is likely the only time they will play Wrigley, its going to be a pretty special set.

I'd agree with you here. I never really got Riot Act. In fact when Lost Dogs dropped with a lot of tracks
picked up off the cutting room floor, B sides and other oddities, I found that to be a much superior collection of songs aside from the classics that were peppered in there ( Yellow Leadbetter, Footsteps, etc.. )

Yes, this is true. Him and Kelly Clarkson are playing there the next night. My fiancee and some of the girls in our group have tickets.

That's why we have opinions! I was fortunate enough to be at the final two Philly '09 Spectrum shows, so we'll see if Wrigley tops that experience.

You sure like to bail on alot of weddings.
THis came up last nite. Didn't even ask about going, and I didn't bring it up. We had some people over and the one guy knows I'm a big PJ fan. She turns to me and says, "Honey, you can go to the concert. Its ok. My brothers will be at the wedding."

Fuck. Yeah.

GA/Floor tix are for Ten Club members only

Lower bowl seats were $168 per pair, upper deck seats were $116 per pair. 10 Club prices are usually a little bit lower, but still that gives y'all an idea of where they will be at price range. For a band of PJ's caliber and the venue, I thought that was a pretty good deal.

As a fan club member, I registered for a random drawing for the chance to buy a pair of tickets. Normally there is no limit on how many fan club tickets there are for a show, but limited seating here. I'll find out on Thursday if I "won" or not. If not, I will definitely be trying for tickets when they go onsale to the commoners.

Theo's Top 25 is seemingly front-page news on pj.com

Image

That's a pretty solid list, apart from the questionable (outright wrong) inclusion of Daughter.
One can be all but assured that some of the less common songs on that board will make their appearance at the show. Early money on Marker in the Sand.

Five days away. Current forecast has 80% chance of thunderstorms in the evening, potentially severe, over an inch of rain forecast. Curious if they would cancel the show if the storms were bad enough. I'll deal with the inch of rain.

Don't want to sound like a peenus, but Kansas City (or Bonner Springs) '03 was one of the worst storms I've ever been in. They came on stage about 30-40 minutes late, and I believe played the shortest show of the Riot Act tour. I would rather not have that happen again. Hopefully they would reschedule it.

30% chance of storms during the day, 40% at night
My guess is its probably rain or shine, but they might delay/postpone if the weather was severe enough.

I do know that Pearl Jam is supposed to hit the stage at 7:30, and there is no opening act. Curfew for concerts is 10:30pm, so I would honestly be surprised if they finished earlier than about 10:45pm. When they came to Chicago in 2009, the final 2 songs of each night were played with the house lights on.

Didn't realize 10:30 curfew, but the 7:30 start with no opener would make sense then.

http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/hdfForecast?query=chicago%2C+IL

I trust it more than the weather channel

Friday

Partly cloudy with a chance of a thunderstorm and rain. High of 91F. Breezy. Winds from the SW at 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 60% with rainfall amounts near 0.2 in. possible.

Friday Night

Partly cloudy with thunderstorms. Low of 72F. Winds from the WSW at 5 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 80% with rainfall amounts near 1.0 in. possible.

It's a curfew, which means they'll simply pay the fines for going past the curfew. See Holmdel '03.

Interesting set list last night in Canada. I would assume it would be a bit different for Chicago but thought it
was a different mix of songs.

PEARL JAM
LONDON, ONTARIO. CA.
JULY 16, 2013
Budweiser Gardens
SET LIST

01. Present Tense
02. Nothing Man
03. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town
04. London Calling-(Jones, Strummer)/Corduroy
(band plays verse music while Ed sings “London Calling” a few times rather than actual lyrics. Corduroy bridge is rearranged slightly)

05. Mind Your Manners (new song from “Lightning Bolt”)
06. Got Some
07. Given To Fly
08. Sad
09. Alone
10. Even Flow (instead of “never vote republican” Ed says something about Chelios)

(Ed reminisces about touring Canada with Mudhoney and how great it was.. When driving into London for this show he remembered everything about the city. He jokes that while looking up facts about the city he saw a wi-fi network called “Dundas Hookers On Crack” which he thought “London is keeping their sense of humor until he went walking around the hotel and thought there might be something to it. He goes on to say that while Stone was out for a run around the city a guy began smashing a phone against a phone booth while he went past. “This next song is for all the Dundas hookers on crack”.)

11. I Got Shit
12. In Hiding
13. Lukin
14. Not For You/Modern Girl-(Sleater Kinney)
15. Black
16. Porch (light globes come down from the lighting truss and Ed swings on one a bit.)

Encore Break: Ed introduces the band. “We don’t have to work tomorrow so I will have to check but I think we can stay as late as we want to tonight here in the lovely ‘Budweiser Gardens’. Shit beer but a good building.”

17. Last Exit
18. Last Kiss-(Cochran) (played to audience behind the stage. Matt plays a cocktail kit facing the back and the rest of the band joins him there.)

(For this part of the show the guys sit down closer together. The band has a new stage set up and lighting rig. During the first encore a giant “chaos bird” that appears to be made of scrap metal with lights strung throughout it descends from the truss to hang just above the band. There are orange lamps all over the stage and larger globes that descend and rise into the lighting truss. )

19. Parachutes
20. Man Of The Hour
21. Just Breathe
22. Daughter
23. Unthought Known
24. Do The Evolution

Encore Break 2
(Ed re-introduces Jeff and Stone who have switched instruments. He thanks the audience for remaining friends in the seven years since the band has played here)

25. Smile

Ed talks about his hockey playing friends here tonight Tie Dome and hall of famer Chris Chelios. He also dedicates the next song to the “guy in the yellow shirt from Denmark for coming all the way out here and requesting a good song”

26. Brain Of J
27. Better Man
28. Alive
29. Rockin’ In The Free World-(Young)
30. Indifference

Not a bad set by any means. Interesting start and I like the sitting down/acoustic set part. I wonder if they'll do something similar at Wrigley. As a hardcore fan though, I would hope for a few more rare tracks.
