Finfer isn't even still the permanent sub. I dont see why Goff and Mac/Spiegs would still interact on twitter with eachother and go on the radio multiple times together since then if there is any bad blood. There certainly doesn't sound like there is.

Mac is too big for there to be bad blood on his side. And maybe Jason learned a lesson.

Your thought makes sense but it's no fun so I will continue to believe their is a massive feud drenched in hot, red and bad blood.

Good thought as well.

Goff got a little too big for his britches, overstepped and Mac turned it into a teachable moment.

Have you ever actually listened to Mac? Seriously? To be clear I like him...but intelligent arguments are not his strong suit. He's North with slightly more education and better grammar.

I've listened to Mac regularly for years. I believe he is smarter than Dan Bernstein. I don't think that's a controversial statement, although I understand why some would disagree. I would suggest its you who is not very familiar with Mac or North if you consider them the same intellectually.

Familiarity with any of them would not be an issue as I would venture that (for better or worse) I am among the longest tenured scoreheads on the board. I listened from day 1 when Tom Shaer signed on each morning from static, Mac traded off between Boers and Hanley, and the evening host depended upon the sunset.
I would rank them as follows:
North: Plays dumber than he really is
Mac: Acts smarter than he really is.
Bernstein: Is smarter than most of his audience and likes to show it whenever possible.

Fair enough. Agree to disagree on all three hosts.

I don't know anyone that would label Mac as being of greater than slightly above average intelligence.

Perhaps "know" is the key to that, but FF and Mac would disagree.

I'm not trying to get into complicated categories or degrees of intelligence, but in general I consider Mac a bright guy. He's not a genius or anything, nor does he portray himself as anything close that. I don't hear anything on my radio m-f that suggests Bernstein is smarter.

Outside of Football and 40 year old music Mac doesn't exactly impress much. Dan blows him away.

Many posters have addressed the Bernstein is smart meme. By discussing atypical sports topics, over thinking/analyzing and sprinkling big words he's fabricated this intelligent persona. In his own words, "He's just a guy."

I'd also like to add as a nail in the coffin to the smart Bernsy argument the fact that he finds Darren Rovell interesting.

Smartest meatball award. :alien:

That's just it. I've been guilty of this in the past as well, but the whole meatball/"smart fan" debate is as stupid as it is smarmy. Awhile ago I described a fellow poster here as "someone who, similar to Bernstein, tries so hard to sound like the smartest guy in the room he ends up looking like the dumbest guy in the room." that's the essence of the B&B show. It's completely empty and devoid of any substance whatsoever. Bernstein knows what WAR is but he doesn't understand how to apply it in conversation. He knows what a Mike Backer is in a pre-snap read, but he was only vaguely aware of one of the best LB'ers in the league(Bowman) as of around Thanksgiving of this year. He uses circular logic as often as anyone I've ever heard, and his sensitivity about being called out for being wrong is well documented on this board.

To get back to my original statement that you took issue with, Bernstein doesn't have the brains and he certainly doesn't have the balls to ever win a substantive debate/argument with Mac. If it's something Mac doesn't give a shit about, he'll just let Berns say his piece and move on. If he does give a shit about it and they get into it, Berns will back down like he always does literally every time he's confronted or contradicted by a guest. If you're as big a consumer of radio here as you say you have to admit that's pretty much impossible to dispute.

Actually it's very possible. If you choose to think Mac is brighter than Bernstein on most any topic outside of Led Zeppelin, jersey numbers or grilling methods then we're at a stalemate.
For the record: I'm not arguing that Bernstein is correct on all of his positions nor that he isn't a pompous a$$. But very few would argue his intelligence...probably not even Mac should he choose to chime in.

You should read the board more. There's a good number of people here who aren't all that impressed with Bernstein's intelligence.

I read to board too much (although I laugh here on a more regular basis than most anywhere else). I know that many don't like him and think he's a jerk to callers...etc. He is. However I don't think his intelligence is really the basis of dispute by most of his critics.

Bernstein knows a ton of stuff, but he's constitutionally incapable of critical thinking. He's a dumb person's idea of what a smart person is.

I really don't consider either of them particularly insightful in either baseball or football. They each have the coach speak down, but I don't think either of them is skilled or comfortable enough to have a substantive conversation in either sport without the insipid use of meaningless stats or tired coach/anaylst's quotes.

But in fairness, none of that falls within their job descriptions. And they are intelligent enough to know that.

I certainly don't think Bernsie is unintelligent but not really above normal either. He has mastered the tricks of conversation, vocabulary and debating very well however from college. This makes one appear to be smarter than they actually are and why college is important.

MAC is just as smart without some of that polish. I call it a tie.

What is the last example of something Bernstein said that made you say "Wow, he is really smart"?

I think Bernstein is of average intelligence and that puts him ahead of many people involved in radio, but the only reason he sounds smart is because he is a hypocritical sports elitist who uses the same tired concepts every day to make it seem like he is thinking on another level.

When you are calling people dumb for a living you can't help but seem smart.
