Gotta say, I took Swarbrick's advice and watched 'Catfish.' TBH, I kinda believe Manti now. This burrito did exactly what that lonely bitch did, presumably for the same reason. It even explains the car crash and the cancer: as Manti understandably lost interest, Tuisosososppoanaahllno came up with scenarios that would keep him from breaking it off, by exploiting his empathy. Can't break up with your girlfriend when she's in traction! Can't break up with her when she's just found out she has cancer.

Having watched how it played out in 'Catfish,' it all makes a lot more sense now.

At this point, the story that Manti and Roniah are telling is so implausible that the only way I'd start to believe it is if it changed drastically. Let me point out once again that Manti had seen a total of 2 pictures of her, never saw a video or skype, had never seen her in person, and was madly in love with a person who was going to die soon but never even asked for an updated picture to remember her by.

I saw the catfish thing. While it did change my point of view on how something like this can happen, I still have my doubts about Te'o(')s story. A few things just don't jive for me...

Many agree with me.

The problem is that Manti was incredibly obstructionist to the media around the time of her death. He specifically told media members not to seek out anything else about her while lying about sending flowers as that is all she wanted. If this story came out in August he'd be much more believable. Starting in September, he was actively participating in lying about it and making sure no one else looked into it.

So, it's kind of hard to think Teo was a victim here when the evidence is overwhelming that since September he was actively covering up virtually everything about her. Of course anything is possible but given he admits to lying a lot already, why should we believe him?

Is is that far fetched that he was already suspicious at that point? Makes perfect sense to me. Didnt want the media exposing something he thought might be happening.

You keep on changing my thought on this. I don't think he did it for the story. He did it because it was convenient with the real death of his grandmother. He could be emotional for his real grandmother. The hospital story was used to explain why she was never around or at games. Once again, let me point out that he was actively instructing reporters on how to behave that all happened to be ways that hid evidence of her ever existing. That's an amazing coincidence.

Yes, that is far fetched considering Manti's own story is that he found out in December she didn't exist(and then strangely still thought she may be alive until the deadspin story).

One phone call to the hospital would have given him a 100% answer to this and yet it never happened. However, he actively told reporters to not attempt to contact anyone who may have known her.

I'll defintely agree that he somewhat exploited the situation. My gauge on the situation was that he was pretty much sick of "Lennay" by the time she died, but all of a sudden cameras were being stuck in his face and he was asked all sorts of questions about the relationship, and he kinda twisted its nature, and added a few details that made him look good.

But how this thing started, and what it was all about? Catfished.

I'll be honest, it's getting a little frustrating on this. It's easy to look at any one specific piece of this and say "well, maybe" but there are like 20 things that just don't match up with his current story.

If you want to believe Teo, who has been lying about this for over a year, and admits he lied and obstructed the media, is telling the 100% truth right now go ahead.
