Their views on gay marriage are very enlightening.

I can't receive a host.

Are you trying to deny me communion?

Who do you think you are? The Pope?

There should be women priests
Priests should be able to marry
The mass needs a 'mass'ive overhaul
They should reassess their stance on birth control and homosexual marriage

That would be a good start

oh and dont pass around a "second collection" at mass. Its pathetic. If you have a special cause give the FIRST collection to that.

Actually fuck that. Get rid of the collections. Just have a donation basket. No need to shake people down

Many people go to mass daily

I see no issue with a periodic meeting time

The blood of Christ could also be poured into the little shot glasses.

Disposal. The cups would then need to be specially disposed of. The chalice is cleaned with any excess water collected and poured in special sinks that put that water back into the ground so it does not mingle with the public systems.

I guess I kind of meant that it would be nice if more church going people practiced what they preached for the rest of the week as well.

All is not forgiven by going to mass. You need to go to confession for that and ask for forgiveness.

I believe you technically are not supposed to receive communion unless you are free from sin at that time. Not sure on that one. Don't practice it or I'd never take communion.

To truly answer your question, Vatican II freed up the rules on that so if you'd rather do some other sacrifice for the greater good, you wouldn't have to give up meat on Fridays. Before that, I believe it was a mortal sin and you would likely go to hell if you had not gotten forgiveness. It depends on your overall CV and you're putting that call in God's hands.

Brief musings ...

- The mass isn't meant to entertain you .... it's called sit down, shut up, and learn. A great deal of the liturgy has it's roots dating back to pre-Christ traditions and concepts.

- You're exceedingly unlikely to contract disease by sharing the Common Cup at the Eucharist ... learn about the effects of high alcohol content wine and metals used in cups, esp gold.

- They're called Jesus Jiggers because they should be derided as being counterintuitive to the whole point of the Eucharist, which is the entirety of the Church - those here, those gone, those yet to be - communing together.

- The purpose of faith is the abject lack of proof. If you're waiting for something to prove your faith, you need a dictionary, and some quiet time to digest the two ideas. The Venn Diagram of faith and proof are two completely unconnected circles.

- The 'special sink' is called a Piscina (yes, it sort of sounds like a naughty word); however, I believe just as often if not moreso the Celebrant and any other folks taking part in the service will instead add water to the wine if there's a ton of excess and practice Consumption rather than dumping it out into said 'special sink'

There are anumber of rites in the Catholic Church.
ByzantineRite
Eastern Rite
Maronite
Malabaar

to name a few. Many of these rites have maried Catholic priests. St. Mary's in Plainfield has a married priest, Fr David Medow. Phenomenal guy with a truly wonderful wife and beautiful family.

The women priest issue is a natural consequence of what Christ did while he was here.

Yes. They do both. It depends on the Priest. There is a washing of the fingers after touching the host that is collected as well that is typically disposed of.

Most priests I knew had a little extra wine prepared and set aside for their consumption at the end of communion - I always assumed to get that extra blessing.

Its actually called stand up, now sit down, stand again, sit down, now on your knees, now up to the front of the church and then right back on your knees.

Its marketed for lack of a better term of a celebration of christ. If I want to be taught about Christ, Ill read about Christ.

Isn't there somewhere that provides a gluten-free host? I would think with entire stores for that now that you could find a service that takes that into consideration.

Saw this response in the NYT recently. I think it is a very succinct place to start.

The Catholic Church is made up of sinners from the pope and the clergy to its newest converts, and pretends nothing less. It offers mercy and forgiveness to those who frequent its sacraments.

An institution should be judged not by those who do not live up to its teaching but by those who do. We call them saints.

Since its founding, the church has only grown. It mourns those who have fallen away but cannot change its fundamental teachings to bring them back. If it did so, it would be a traitor to its founder.

So peace to Frank Bruni and Garry Wills; as they must obey their consciences, so must the church.

(Rev.)
