@ChrisKuc: #Blackhawks' Patrick Sharp "might miss some time" according to Joel Quenneville. Marian Hossa not serious and Andrew Shaw "is not too bad."
Of the three Sharp is far and away the least important player. Some time off might actually do him some good considering how worthless he's been for the most part this season.
While I wouldn't consider a guy who is tied with Hossa for third in team points exactly "worthless", he has been snakebitten on his shots, and has made considerably more mistakes on the ice than you would expect him to. I agree, though - a little time off might do him some good, if he's not in fact gone for an extended period.
I hate that terms "snakebitten" as it applies to Sharp. That implies its somehow not his fault that he can't score. He's a so called sniper. Its not bad breaks that he can't score, its bad shooting. Getting breakaways and then doing the exact same silly "move" every single time and having the goalie easily save it is not a case of being snakebitten, its a case of poor decision making and shooting. Firing shots wide is another case of bad shooting. Hitting posts? Those aren't even shots on net. And I'm really sick of Pat Foley making excuses for the guy by claiming that Sharp has hit 48 posts and crossbars this season. Everytime Foley uses that excuse the number of posts hit magically goes up by about 5. I'd like to actually know how many posts/crossbars he's hit this year, I bet its not even a fraction of the number Foley gives him credit for.
Snakebitten is when you have goalies making ridiculous saves on you, like you have an open net ande the goalie throws his stick out and saves it with the buttend. Or you pick a corner and your stupid teammate decides to stand in the crease and block your shot with his face as Sharp did to Kane the other night. Coming down on a breakaway and firing it into the goalie's chest like Sharp did last night is poor execution, nothing more.
He's 3rd in points because he's playing alongside Kane, who will be a Hart trophy finalist this year at his pace. He should have about 10 more points easily because of Kane so his point total is not exactly impressive despite its rank on the team.
But, that said, we NEED him to play well so hopefully a little time off will get his head straight. If he was healthy I would have no problem if he was traded based on his reputation for a really good power forward left wing.
What really bothered me last nigth was when Sharp went out and with Hoss already out, why not slide Kane up to line 1 wth Toews and Saad and see if they could spark some offense. With all the line juggling that's the one combo Q hasn't tried yet and it seems to make the most sense.
