I noticed recently that more and more, Deadspin was coming under the auspices of Gawker, evolving its editorial stance from the public shaming exercises under A.J. Daulerio to something more like a social-democratic Conscience of Sports, both like and totally not like Bob Costas, if that makes any sense. Today, though, they're just all over the map: a piece on whether the film Heathers ruined the name Heather, tales of shit aboard the Carnival ship, and of all things, a collection of anecdotes about finding places to ejaculate while on active military duty. So I guess now it's basically just Bro Gawker the way Jezebel is Chick Gawker.

Has anyone else noticed Format Rot over there?

Before you ask, I posted this in the Boers & Bernstein folder because Deadspin is basically the show prep, and my personal jury is out as to whether I want Dan to devote multiple segments to how it might be CTE that makes soldiers jerk off into water bottles.

It's gone tabloid trash along with all the other associated "Gawker Media" sites under their umbrella.

I agree.

It's been Gawker since Will Leitch left and KSK became a Uproxx staple. Gawker has no qualms with carving out their nitch of media, and Leitch put Deadspin on the map. I've read the others but some have either gone through a transformation of talent or suffered from the pressure of having to produce regular and readable (clickable) content.

Bernstein works for the second or third largest media entity in CBS, yet he keeps Deadspin afloat by quoting from them. As much as he wishes he (they) were still working on Belmont Avenue, he's part of an entity that with every "Boo-yah" comparison reminds everyone that he/they (CBS) will never be #1, top dog, with him on their roster.

yeah, I PTFB mad because my Friday is something else than my habit.

Kotaku is the one I now complain about. Half of their content is now based around Asian Culture....cosplay, music, food, etc.

What's that web site again?

Too Grantlandy. They desperately need Craggs back.

I'm glad they felt the heat from Grantland producing longform writing beyond "grainy cell phone photos of maybe Chase Utley doing coke," because it has gotten better in a lot of respects, but there's still that Social Crusading For Pageviews stank about them that I can't get past on Gawker and also cannot on Deadspin.

I continue to view Grantland as a junkyard of middlebrow hackery. I really wish they'd felt heat from The Classical or Sports on Earth instead.

Just wait until Jezebel (literally) bleeds over into the Deadspin world. Things aren't going to get any better.

TL;DR: welcome to the wonderful world of feelings. Promoting selfishness is part of an agenda that is very pro-consumerism, which is the way of our society. There's also that added bonus that promoting selfishness leads to self-love, which leads to righteousness, which invariably leads to people projecting said righteousness on anyone and anything that is not themselves, which has lead to the PC/feminist/etc "revolutions" going out and "gentrifying" our outlooks on life and consequent expectations of government/media/society, which leads to people DEMANDING JUSTICE for things that are shoved in their face via massmedia, which ultimately leads to the inevitable future.

So when Deadspin goes from being a kinda-salacious sports rag that made its bones reporting relatively "out there" stories usually about the dirty laundry of the sports industry, once it becomes big enough you can shoehorn that ben parker quote from teh raimi spider man franchise ("with great power comes great responsibility") so now that Deadspin has a readership, welp, it's a derivative of Rahm Emanuel's famous quote about not letting a tragedy go to waste.... so in this case now that you're a big formally-accepted sports rag, welp, people know the brand so you can DO SOMETHING WITH IT*. and of course, that leads to championing causes and leading your flock to whatever opinion you have, which is of course very very easy to do nowadays.

So again, once Jezebel bleeds into Deadspin it's only gonna get worse. This might be the one time in my life i'd ever advocate going homo =D

* = this is exactly what happened to Dan Bernstein over @ Der Schnorr after he achieved FOTS status due to his show outlasting all of their other ones and becoming the station's flagship show basically by default.

Oh wait, don't take this the wrong way but badrogue17 thinks I'm a good poster if I keep my thoughts contained to 1-2 sentences at most. Let's try that post up there again.

RIGHT ON CH! Just wait til Jezebel (literally) bleeds into Deadspin. Deadspin was better 2 years ago.

Grantland's sports stuff is good time killer. I like it. I've stopped clicking on their pop culture stuff. Don't like it.

Edit: Like any general sports site their hockey stuff is not so good.

From the same site that all but came out and said that Teo was gay in the first few days of them breaking the story on Teo's fake girlfriend, I present this.

http://deadspin.com/5986736/nfl-gms-want-to-know-if-manti-teo-is-gay

Righteous indignation that NFL teams care if he is gay.

From the original deadspin story.
Quote:
Te'o and Tuiasosopo definitely know each other. In May 2012, Te'o was retweeting Tuiasosopo, who had mentioned going to Hawaii. Wrote Te'o, "sole"—"bro," in Samoan—"u gotta come down." In June, Te'o wished Tuiasosopo a happy birthday. How they know each other isn't clear. We spoke to a woman we'll call Frieda, who had suggested on Twitter back in December that there was something fishy about Lennay Kekua. She was Facebook friends with Titus Tuiasosopo, so we asked her if she knew anything about Ronaiah.

"Manti and Ronaiah are family," she said, "or at least family friends." She told us that the Tuiasosopos had been on-field guests (of Te'o or someone else, she didn't know) for the Nov. 24 Notre Dame-USC game in Los Angeles. USC was unable to confirm this, but a tweet from Tuiasosopo's since-deleted account suggests he and Te'o did see each other on that West Coast trip. "Great night with my bro @MTeo_5! #Heisman #574L," Ronaiah tweeted on Nov. 23, the night before the game.
