Awesome documentary.

Part I was tonight, Part II tomorrow night. Arguably the best band of the 70's. Lots of never before seen footage of the band in studio and on the road and insight into the personnel changes leading up to the breakup, their drug use, etc.

Good shit especially for those of us who grew up to 70's music.

1. I hate the fucking Eagles, but I am going to record this just so I have something to watch during the day.

2. I actually agree with shirtless driver on something

Didnt think saying the Eagles were arguably the best band of the 70's to be such a stretch. Lot of people would agree with that.

Let me spitulate for bands formed and who met their demise in the decade. Obviously the Stones, Floyd and Zeppelin made quite the statement in the 70's but all of them formed in the 60's.

Biography
With five number one singles, fourteen Top 40 hits, and four number one albums, the Eagles were among the most successful recording artists of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of those albums -- Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) and Hotel California -- ranked among the ten best-selling albums ever, and the popularity of 2007's Long Road Out of Eden proved the Eagles' staying power in… Read more in Amazon's Eagles Store

Not sure what's so hilarious about the contention that this band is arguably the best band of the 70s...it's not like he said book-closed-shut best band of the 70s...he said arguably...I'd say that's pretty reasonable.

I missed out on Part 1 last night...so jumping into Part 2, where they opened up with everyone's solo careers was a bit jarring.

That being said, this was really good stuff...was worth watching just for the segment where they dealt with Felder getting the boot. (Boyd deserves credit for picking Glenn Frey as the foil to my Don Felder, as he is clearly the most vocal of the anti-Felder crowd).

I never realized Frey was so hard core relative to personnel magt until his quotes (and actions) on Felder. Talk about not holding back. Damn. So much for him being some pop lightweight.

After reading Felders book is when I realized that Frey was the de facto hard ass cold blooded fuckstain regarding personnel decisions in the band. Especially given the cold shoulder he showed Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner ( who truly had the best voice in the band imho) over the years because they dared leave the group.

Yeah but if I can come up with at least ten bands from the '70s that were better than the Eagles*, it's not really something to argue. And I do like a few Eagles songs. That's like saying Bread was arguably the best band of the '70s because in theory, it can indeed be argued, irrespective of the argument's intrinsic futility.

*Bands I'll take over the Eagles:
Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Steely Dan
Talking Heads
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
King Crimson
Neil Young and Crazy Horse
Kraftwerk
Can

And I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. If I were allowed to count David Bowie, Tom Waits, Brian Eno, Lou Reed, and John Cale, they were all better than the Eagles, too.

I, for one, was taken aback to learn in Part Two that a briefly reincarnated Eagles had extended an offer of membership to Easy E in 1987 before Frey put the kibosh on it.

Fleetwood Mac is a blind spot for me. I like "Rhiannon" and "Go Your Own Way," but mostly I just know them as that one kinda boring band where everyone was either fucking each other or resenting everyone for fucking each other.

Ten better bands in your opinion.

But I'm not going to sit here and argue about it. I'll just throw out some emoticons and be done with it because these arguments really are the most pointless exercise on the internet.

Eagles songs that I like:
Already Gone
One of These Nights

Eagles songs that are fun-bad:
Life in the Fast Lane
Witchy Woman
James Dean

Eagles songs that suck:
everything else

And it's not an Eagles song, but Joe Walsh was in the Eagles, and "Life's Been Good" has its own circle of hell.

Not funny because it's a bad choice (which it isn't) but funny because you have the stones to admit it. :salut:

That's actually a great list. I'd consider adding Bowie, Supertramp, AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, The Doobie Bros. & Alice Cooper.

Damn, forgot about AC/DC. They need to be on my list, not sure who I would take off.

I really wanted to include Styx. I know most people wouldn't feel that way, but I was an immense Styx fan.

If Kid Cairo ever needed proof that you really are gay, here it is.

Styx had 2 good songs & one of them was done better by an animated fat boy.

Henley is extremely talented dude n likable.
Walsh is good guitar player n awful Singer..but likable.
Glen Frey is a huge douche..same with Don fielder.
