Fascinating interview with M. Vancil (sp?) on B & B yesterday, with lots of tasty tidbits for B & B lovers/haters as well as long-time Bulls fans. In addition to enjoying B & B both going down memory lane with their own MJ experiences, I was fascinated by the way that Vancil maintained the fiction that Jordan is somehow extra-human like (wait for it) Warren Buffet and Steve Jobs because...well because he could be disciplined with his World Com stock (while also happening to note that he was paying Vancil $1 M, in true courtier/starfucker fashion), or because he could handle the crush of Rolling Stones-like pressure, or because...well, really because he was very very very good to M. Vancil.

In the meantime, it was interesting how strangely compliant and passive B & B got in the face of all this starfucking. No MJeff references, no references to MJeff's many dalliances in the "Nothing But Ass" league, only a half-hearted attempt to explain Berns' perspective on Jordan's pathology...I found myself wondering if B & B actually were envying Vancil's lofty perch as Jordan's writer/valet.

Vancil paid MJ $1M not other way around.

True, but how was he able to have $1M. Unless the Vancils are independently wealthy, he got that $$ (at least in part) by being MJeff's popular biographer...

I don't think the $1m was really in question of how it was earned and why? He did say it was in escrow and earning 5%.

Jordan is no genius, he is a baby, he gets what he wants, even at this age...or he will cry about it. It's what made the guy Amazing. He refused to lose.

The starfucking by BB and TB is always amazing with MJ becuase they both try to make it look like the knew him way before anyone and they knew how big he was going to be. Because nobody else saw it.

TB claimed he really knew it after the Cleveland game! The Cleveland game is was in 1989, he had been int he league for 6 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 1984, Sports Illustrated gave you this HINT!

What's even more surprising is that "clutchness" apparently exists in basketball but not in baseball. That's why the Jordan baseball experiment was so fascinating. Would Michael have been able to bring clutch over to a game where clutch does not exist? That game at Wrigley he had says yes.

He hit the game winning shot in the NCAA Championship game, and was the third pick in the draft. Sure Terry, you were the only who saw something.

I think he's trying to say he knew Jordan was a great transcendent player before anyone else did. I don't remember Terry ever writing anything like that though.

Before the championship run began Jordan was starting to be viewed as a guy like George Gervin. The popular opinion at the time was you couldn't build a team around an off guard.

I don't know that Terry saw anything, but not a whole lot of people thought he would win 1 championship before he did actually do it. And he beat a very injured Lakers squad, so I'd say the Blazers championship was more impressive.

Was it Terry, or "his guy"?
