I heard it also. 100% joking.

This is the type of thread that leads people like me and Kid to dismiss your value of Beardown and his crackpot theories. For every one he might actually nail, he has ten threads like this where everyone who heard it just shakes their head and is annoyed with themselves for clicking on it.

I've criticized Beardown on many occasions

I just asked a question

Yeah I know that kind of joke exists.

But Mac has never struck me as the kind of host that would use that type of joke to get a guy.

I think Mac was 100% joking. If he had a problem with Goff he would straight say so, not veil it in some joke.

I agree. History has shown that he isn't the person to take veiled shots at people he has a problem with. That is certain.

Mac took a lot of shit from Goff. Mac bit his tongue. Mac took the high road. This was the new Mac. The reformed Mac. The mellow Mac. The 1992-2005 Mac would have taken a flame thrower to him!!!!

But, for a brief moment today, we got 1995 Dan McNeil. Didn't last long. Mac quickly snapped back. Said he was kidding. He defused the situation. But he meant it. It's no big deal. Goff said worse about him.

I think he was half-ass kidding and half-ass being real.

It's true that Mac has never shied away from a confrontation, but Goff was never on his level. Mac knows he would look small if he really fired on a producer. And he didn't have to interact with Jason if he didn't want to. It wasn't like Harry where he had to do a show with him everyday. When Mac had enough of Goff's bullshit, he named Finfer "permanent guest host" which precipitated the move to Atlanta for the guy who lost those shifts.

Tony Soprano doesn't get into a pissing match with some low level guy on Vito's crew. He has other ways to handle things.

Agreed with Joe, panther and Beardown. Chus, I was out beautifying the edgewater neighborhood and had an opportunity to hear the thing live. I don't see how you can't take it as, at the very least, confirming that there was something between Mac and Goff. Why would he apologize if everything were great and why would Goff have been told about it?

I think it was good natured ball busting about a real situation.

Tony Soprano doesn't get into a pissing match with some low level guy on Vito's crew. He has other ways to handle things.

First problem with that is the assumption that Goff's departure to Atlanta was precipitated by Finfer being named permanent guest host. For all we know it was the opposite, and Goff accepted the position with Atlanta and was finishing up with the Score while the radio station down in Atlanta was getting setup. That's very plausible.

And again, Mac has had Goff on at least 4 or 5 times since then. That doesn't happen if Mac got Goff "fired" and Goff actually wanted to stay at the Score. This whole Goff and Mac feud is a bad soap opera bit dreamed up by Beardown and for some reason everyone is running with it. There was absolutely nothing malicious or snarky about what Mac said. It was an obvious ball busting joke.

That is going too far.

Beardown adds fuel to the fire, but there was legitimate tension between Goff and Mac. There is no denying that.

It's not dreamed up. The timeline is way too coincidental to just discount it as nothing.

If anything, Beardown is mischaracterizing it. Goff probably figured out that if he wanted a future in radio as a full time host there was no room at the Score and he had to go elsewhere at least until other options become available. Once the opportunity to be on the Danny Mac show dried up he knew it was time to take a chance.

Danny Mac probably did him a favor. Waiting out for a spot with either Bernstein or Mac probably wasn't going to happen for years if ever.

I agree with this. 100%

To completely deny that there is/was nothing going on between Mac and Goff is to let your Beardown hate cloud your vision. It wasn't a chair throwing, piss in the coffee and scream type of thing but there was obviously some tension and some back and forth going on.

That's reasonable, but it's not at all what Beardown was saying. So if your suggestion is what actually happened then it is fair to say that this whole "feud" is a made up soap opera that really isn't all that interesting. Like RFDC correctly said at the beginning of the thread, nothing to see here.

So Mac asking Goff to come into the studio to ask why Goff made a joke about him was nothing?

That's exactly the way I see it. I don't think Mac got him "fired". I don't think he has that much power. He's been around long enough to know that ultimatums don't work well in his business. And besides, I don't think he was really bothered by Jason to such a degree. I'd say he probably just thought of him as a smart-mouthed punk. Like "Who the fuck does he think he is? Terry giving me the Daamaanaa stuff is one thing, but this kid is overstepping. Well, I'll use Finji and see how he likes that."

Not sure if I'm buying this one, guys.

I think Mac and Jason had a "thing", albeit minor, when he asked Jason what he meant by his "DaaMaaaNeee" that one time. But I chalked that up to his new sobriety and it seemed to be handled then. I don't think any real problems still exist or existed after that.

Jason moved on becasue he was tired of waiting. I think it's just that simple.

I really think Goff still harbors hatred towards Mac, at first it was just some good natured ribbing and maybe a "thing" but Goff really turned to hate when Mac had him canned.

Hate? Canned?

I don't think there's any "hate" involved, and I certainly don't think Mac got Goff fired, but I do love watching people talk themselves into believing the Score is a big happy family of rational, mature, well-adjusted adults just because they don't want to agree with Beardown.

Mac and Jason were definitely at odds.

But no Mac didnt get him fired. Maybe the Finfer thing played a small part in Jason realizing his oppurtunites were drying up, but a small part at most.
