2 triples in his first 2 at bats.

listening on the score and they statement of "proving his offseason work may have just paid off."

While I dont doubt he worked at hitting in the offseason, so did everyone else. Maybe the REPORTERS can ask him if he did anything special or are the triples the product of batting against guys in camp just to throw balls and not pitch?

Is he friends with Braun?

All the steroids in the world isn't going to help him hit a curveball unfortunately

I wonder which coach helped him overhaul his swing. A new guy? non staff guru?

Heard Kermit say on the broadcast yesterday they have him lowering his hands ala Rizzo and it seems to be making a difference. They did say who he was working with but I don't remember who they said it was.

Maybe it was Specific Intangible Adjustments?

Well, until they get about 40 at bats into spring training I'm not gonna get too giggly.

He lit it up previously in Spring Training so this means nothing but hopefully he makes it. He does have some skills but striking out 180 times a year ain't gonna cut it obviously.

True, he did well in spring last year.

He should take BP from Dontrelle Willis junk balls all spring

Bullshit. One of the top offensive performers on a championship team.

More extra base hits than you can shake a stick at.

We'll see. I hope you're right and he turns into Mike Trout. He wont, though.

Jackson is killing it facing AA-AAA pitching. Baez is a future franchise player (Soler as well) and will start the year in A. Samarzja is ready to be a top flight starting pitcher at 29.

I think you will be impressed with Soler.

99% of minor players, the jump that needs to be made is if they can hit curve balls and Major league junk, as most can hit fast balls.

The 1% exception was Micah Hoffpauer, the only guy who could hit Junk, but could touch 90+ stuff!

I do like Soler but he is already being called a franchise player quality prospect by Gordon Whitenmeyer. These guys can't just be projected to be MLB players or good MLB players, they are projected franchise player quality prospects even though they have spent almost no time above A ball. It damages credibility.

Bret Jackson is my starting CF coming out of Spring Training. I give him April,May and 2 weeks of June. If the strike outs continue WITH a low OBP & BA,than back down to the minors.

Bad.

Two options.

1) He starts the season at AAA and stays there for at least 6-8 weeks showing he is ready for the big leagues. (I prefer this one.)
2) Starts the season as a starting CF for the Cubs and is allowed the entire season to play. 140 starts at a minimum.

1) BAD. Performing at AAA not always a good barometer.
2) You can't have a guy striking out for a WHOLE season...that's bad. (See Adam Dunn-2011)

Thinking about making a rolling thread why this poster is not a baseball GM thread. Plenty of examples over 2-3 threads with activity right now in this section.

You're going to start a thread combining 77% of all baseball thoughts into one? That's sure to get pruned.

That would be Oscar Taveras, who will be terrorizing NL outfields for the next decade or so soon

That swing is money.

The dude slugged .572 with a .252 ISO while striking out around 10% of the time last year in the Texas League. Is said to have Vlad-like ability to hit anything near the zone hard. Money indeed!

He's got some serious juice in that swing. Do you think they bring him north or do they give him some more time in the minors? I think they should bring him north. His time is now.

I want to apologize to IMU for the decidedly Cardinals turn this thread celebrating the greatness of Brett Jackson has taken.

I'm thinking they keep him down for service time issues, but the team in general and corner outfielders in particular are aged... I'm guessing if anyone out of Holliday, Jay, Beltran or Craig goes on the DL they would call him up immediately. He needs to play everyday.

I don't think a team like the Cardinals is going to care about service time issues. The Nats didn't care when it came to Harper, the Angels with Trout or the Braves with Heyward. Those teams are competing now and to hell with 6 years from now. If he turns out to be all that they're going to have to lock him up anyway. Put your best team on the field and go get em.
