I know I'm going to get roasted for this observation but, I've been holding on to this for years. I HATE Will Ferrell !!!!! That's right I said it, I think his brand of humor is the dumbest shit that ever gets on the air. I was watching NBC Sunday night and caught the retrospective on " Saturday Night Live " and they showed that abortion " More Cow Bell " sketch. That and every movie he's ever done makes me sick. You can take "Anchorman",
"Ricky Bobby" and all the rest of his jagoff characters and flush. Okay,the floor is yours, let me have it Will fans. If anyone out there agrees with me, please help with your support.

Give me a frame of reference. Do you think Adam Sandler is funny? Because everything you said about Ferrell is exactly how I feel about Sandler. I don't blindly support Ferrell. That basketball movie was absolute crap, but the cowbell sketch? Comedic gold. Sorry you don't like to laugh.

People get weird about SNL when they pass the age group it is aiming at. Those that loved it when they were in their teens-20's find that they no longer like it in their later years which would be fine except they are adamant about getting on the internet and lamenting about how much it sucks now. This has been happening for 20 years. Whether or not it sucks, it is not written/produced with you in mind anymore. Hand wringing over it is more a reflection on you than it is SNL.

when the star is Will Ferrell he usually sucks. His "act" is just doing something outrageous, while others are doing something kinda normal.

while I personally didnt love Elf, many people did and he isnt playing the goofball, just trying to play an elf...which I know a ton of people find funny enough that someone invested a ton of money into making it into a play, so I think it is probably a big hit with kids.

Maybe the funniest I have ever seen Ferrell is in "Silent Bob and Jay take Hollywood" he has a recurring character as the Park Ranger, amid the huge cast of cameos, so his scenes are actually funny.

Kiss enough at SNL, do what Loren says and you get a role in his summer movie project...how do you think Night at the Roxberry or that Marmalade? thing was made. It's why Norm McDonald was let go, he didnt want to be in Loren's film and next thing you know, cut from SNL.

Threads like this are useless unless you provide a frame of reference to current movie actors you do find funny. Otherwise, it's just the same old "this sucks" thread.

Personally, I can't come up with anyone in the past 15 years that has made more consistently funny movies either as the lead or as a co-star.

SNL is funny when the have talent. I'm not to old to find stuff funny, the product sucks. Tina Fey IMO was fucking terrible and set them back a decade and Lorne is conservative with his cast. The guys from the whitest kids you know were funnier than the crap i have seen on snl in the last 10 years.

I agree with this. It's also because the past of SNL is always viewed by the best skits that get played over and over again for decades. I bet Eddie Murphy did some terrible skits too. I'm sure John Belushi did too. They just aren't played any more because they were terrible.

That's a real good list too, but a lot of those seem similar to some of the Will Ferrell movies too.

I also think you should watch Zoolander again. I didn't like it that much the first time either. It seems to get better every time I watch it.

"zoolander" is utterly silly but that's why it's hilarious...same thing with "step brothers" and "austin powers".

Step Brothers may very well be the dumbest movie I've ever seen but it is one of the funniest. I mean, it really makes no sense but the parents, Riley/Ferrell, Ferrells brother and his friends etc all make the movie click.

Agree and what made them funny was the fact that Ferrell wasn't in them to ruin it.

I thought it was because Norm always made fun of OJ Simpson during his trial. Don Ohlmeyer, who was a bigwig at NBC and had something to do with SNL back then, was friends with OJ and made Norm disappear.

Will Ferrell the person is one of the funniest people on the planet. He's cashed in with some terrible movies, but at his core, and just as a person he's fucking hilarious.
