They may technically be a major market team, CH, but the White Sox treat themselves as if they're the Royals, Brewers, Twins or one of the other true smaller market teams. The ONLY true move the Sox made was the FA signing of 3B/2B Jeff Keppinger in the offseason, but lost the likes of 3B Kevin Youkilis to the Yankees, C Anthony John Pierzynski to the Rangers & P Brett Myers, I believe to the division rival Indians.

Except for they generally spend about $30 to $40 million more than the Royals do. Derp.

EDIT: lol the Sox had $127 million on the books in 2011 compared to the Royals' $36 million. This is the best myth since the one about how the seasons were determined by Hades seizing Persephone because of the pomegranate seeds she ate.

The Sox are a major market team when it suits them, like when Reinsdorf is swinging his dick around and refusing to let Cuban buy a team or kicking Moorad out of baseball. They are a major market team when they are charging premium prices for scout seats and 9 bucks for a beer. They are a small market team when they are explaining why they can't re-sign Mark Buehrle or pay for more than one decent outfielder at a time.

Uncle Jerry wasn't the only owner to thumb his nose at Mark Cuban's efforts to buy an MLB team. MLB "Commissioner" Allan H. "Bud" Selig and other owners want no part of Cuban owning a franchise either.

Selig is Reinsdorf's puppet and he's not your goddamn uncle.

SHARK I believe the proper analogy is not so much hand in hand as balls in mouth as far as Jerry and Bud's relationship.
