After yet another clunker loss by the Bulls last night on their home floor to the Kyrie Irving-less Cavaliers that snapped an 11-game win streak at United Center, I wonder if Bernsy's most recent column about all the heavy minutes Coach Thibs has put on his team might now be taking their toll.

The Bulls' latest loss to Cleveland, as well as continuing anxiety regarding whether Derrick Martell Rose will officially return will be front & center this afternoon, as well as Bernstein's latest column. He tells you why MLB should "Ban the Home Plate Collision" here:

Something I agree with Bernstein about. Can the collisions and take out slides at 2nd base too.

It's probably due in large part to the heavy minutes, but the Bulls are just not that great of a team. With D-Rose they get better, but just not good enough. Derrick's tenure here will mimic the era of the 90's Knicks. Good team but never a champ.

Unless GarPax add some high quality personnel I would be inclined to agree with this.

That's one team I've heard mentioned. These Bulls are in "basketball hell", and not just salary-wise either. These Bulls might have to hit the reset button yet again.

The other night, when I had an hour drive and radio offered only Terrible Depaul, UIC, & Northwestern College Buckets I threw on an old B&B Podcast I had...and I have definitely noticed a slight difference in the show with the departure of J Goff....the show seems more negative now, even more so than it always was. I think Drinky's roughness with the callers only encourages B&B to be dickheads beyond the norm....still love the show, just miss the goofiness Goff used to bring....it used to alleviate some of the rage...

The show was plenty negative when Goff waa there, but at least he'd occasionally throw in a legitimately funny remark between bouts of race-baiting and telling us which guys were bums. Abbattacola just yells non-sequiturs and acts like they're jokes.

Well, terrible DePaul basketball is on The SCORE this eve. They've got #10 Louisville at Allstate Arena this eve with pregame starting @ 7:45P. The horror will also be seen on ESPNU, DIRECTV 208, @ 8P. You've been warned.

Abbattacola makes Will Ferrell seem funny.

It's been awhile since DePaul beat a nationally ranked team, Cluv. They've been awful period in the Big East and I'm starting to wonder if HC Oliver Purnell might be on borrowed time. How much more time can Coach Purnell restore a once proud basketball program? Usually, Coach Purnell teams are supposed to be better in the 3rd or 4th years of his tenure.

Indeed.

Even with D. Rose they still, most likely, don't have the firepower to win a title.

I really hope the Bulls front office doesn't waste Derrick Rose by trying to go cheap when building the team, he is young but he has had his first major (and possibly) career altering injury. The clock is ticking.

I hate to say it but if Derrick wants to win anything, it won't be in Chicago. He should be looking at Chris Paul and saying, "This is what I need to do." Chris Paul has always been great, and he was on some good New Orleans teams that went to the playoffs, but they weren't gonna beat the Lakers, SA, or Dallas.

Matt Rodewald has the "Scoreboard Updates" this afternoon. Here's what else is planned:

*3:30P: "The Second Half"

That's all they have.

Laurence Holmes follows the guys @ 6P tonight, complete with "Hater Wednesday" at a special time of 7P. Laurence's show is nipped by really bad DePaul basketball. They host #10 Louisville this eve at Allstate Arena in Rosemont. The game is on ESPNU, DIRECTV 208, @ 8P, but SCORE coverage begins @ 7:45P. After basketball around 10:15P-ish, Wayne Randazzo has the latenight SCORE until Midnight. "SCORE Overnight" with Les Grobstein & Adam Harris follows after that.

Chris Paul isn't winning a title anytime soon either.

Why does Rose have to leave? Why can't someone join him here?

Well, Chris Paul appears to be closer to an NBA title than Derrick right now, but these guys still have their doubts about Clippers' HC Vinny Del Negro.

It sure seems like the Bulls are banking on the 2016 Charlotte pick and that guy from Europe.

I agree.

The Bulls have had a a few years to aim towards building a championship team and have ended up with zero titles. The supporting cast is, more or less, there but they still lack a true #2 who can create. Instead of that they got Rip Hamilton. Again, he has now had his first major/severe injury so the clock is ticking that much faster. Will he be as good when he returns? Will he feel the same way about Chicago and the Bulls when he continues to see other teams moving past the Bulls? Just how patient can he be?

I know there are unavoidable factors like Deng's contract, Boozer's money, the love of Noah and such that are a drag but at some point they have to get serious and win the title or they risk wasting Roses time in Chicago and losing him to another team because he become tired of knowing he will never get the ring because management sucks.

I get this. But the question is why hasn't any real #2's or a real 1b. come to Chicago? Is it GarPax comfortable with where the team is? Too cheap? Inept? To conservative? Or do players really not want to come to Chicago?

What are the FA classes looking like over the next few years?

Chew on this for a moment. Derrick Rose was doing extra shooting at the Berto Center, says CSNChicago.com's Aggrey Sam's Twitter...For what that's worth.

Surely you couldn't possibly think the Bulls are as close to winning a title as the Clippers are. The Clippers are amongst the best teams in the West and could get to the Finals this year.

And why do you think anyone would join Derrick Rose in Chicago? Two things have been clear over the years, especially with the Gar/Pax regime:

1. Free agents don't want to play in Chicago.
2. The Bulls are not willing to deal their "core" players in a trade.

The supporting cast actually regressed. And I don't care how many stats Mini Ditka wants to yank from his ass; numbers are just numbers. I know what I'm watching and this team outside of Deng, Noah, Boozer, and Taj is worse than it was in 2011 and 2012.

The same reason Rose isn't winning a title here is why he isn't winning a title anywhere else. He just isn't good enough for there to be some sort of expectation that he'll win a title. Now, maybe he can Nowitzki himself into a title when everything falls right into place and he happens to be the best player but Rose is at a minimum behind Lebron and Durant in ability. The third best player in the league rarely wins the NBA title. Jordan did it to everyone. Then Kobe/Shaq did it to everyone. Now Lebron and Durant are basically running the title conversation the next decade or so.

It sucks, but we've basically got Clyde Drexler, Dominique, Ewing, Payton rather than Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Kobe, or Shaq.

That's why I said, "...more or less."

And the reason why some of that cast (outside of the 4 big players) is less is probably because the star player is rehabbing a blown knee. More minutes will expose players to be good, bad or mediocre.

OKC does bring up a valid point. The Bulls' inability to land marquee free agents dates long before John Paxson became Executive V.P. & Gar Forman the General Manager. We all remember the Bulls cleared a lot of salary cap space when the 6 NBA Championship teams broke up in 1998 and look what it got them?

When they struck out in trying to land Grant Hill & Tracy McGrady, both of whom landed in Orlando, the Bulls ended up signing a guy named Ron Mercer about a decade ago. A few years ago, we all remember they signed Carlos Boozer when they struck out trying to land LeBron, Dwyane "I Used the Bulls As Leverage" Wade & Chris Bosh.

The Bulls hope to clear a lot of salary cap space for the next big FA class in 2014, but it's not a sure thing GarPax will do much better even if they have all the $$$$ in the world to land a marquee ballplayer. Whether Forman can make a Danny Ainge-type move as soon as this summer remains to be seen.

It's probably due in large part to the heavy minutes, but the Bulls are just not that great of a team.

This fact seems to be lost on a lot of people in this town.

Could have said the same thing about Dirk a few years back couldnt you?

I see what you're saying, but you just never know.

And there is no guarantee Paul is winning anything with the Clippers
