Or at the very least, justify it as "entertainment". Why is it accepted? I don't know. Maybe because Bernstein scolds racist callers of lower intelligence than he. As if racism should be accepted by smart people and not by dumb people with Chicago accents. Goff believed this as well.

He did watch The Magic Door once though, that alone qualifies him to speak knowledgeably about it.

The term "brothers" isn't racist, although it is anachronistic and bernstein is a little young to be using it. It was very common from both whites and blacks during my high school years. I don't really see picks with the black fist anymore either, but I'm sure someone still makes them.

bernstein's racism comes out in ways he doesn't even recognize. As in his childlike wonder that a big black businessman opens mail and drinks coffee just like a white professional. Hey! They're just like us!!!!!!

Yesterday he jokingly assumed Webb got arrested for purple drank which isn't necessarily racist so much as it is a sterotype but I thought that's what Beardown was talking about. Of course trying to understand what Beardown is trying to say is pretty much a fools errand.

When black athletes overspend on things like gaudy jewelry, customized Chevys in a Louis Vitton motif, or build a recording studio in their basement to pursue their after athletic career as a rapper, that's accepted as fodder for ridicule. When they travel first class with an entourage, hire their homies to pack heat and serve as protection/drivers for their weekly strip club "rainmaking" forays, or see a crap table as their home away from home it becomes fair ground for derision.

Yet when they decide to buy a modest house near the old neighborhood back home, drive a car that is over four years old, or choose to travel by more conventional means by driving their selves with their own car, they also are openly questioned. No need for the timely toady support from a "Schmutzie" or a "Maddux Boy" to reinforce the insular views espoused, nobs being nob polishers doesn't lend legitimacy. Having a Larry Holmes come on at show's end doesn't lend insight either, as he is the embodiment of a walking talking dichotomy.

There are people who don't like flying and only do so out of necessity. They see the money they earn as investment potential and, perhaps, understand that generational wealth can't occur when ordering a bottle of Cristal for the next table over no matter how recent the signing bonus was obtained.

When driving from Chicago to the south, I-57 is a reasonable route if one is staying the night in Memphis (a day's drive for good food and entertainment). Webb was speeding through a notorious stretch of Interstate, Pulaski county and the vicinity of Cairo, Illinois. Only Webb knows if he was puffing while blasting the sounds when pulled over. He may well have answered honestly if asked if he was smoking, it wouldn't be the first time someone gave the correct answer to the question. That the matter was dropped by the county means that neither Bernstein or Holmes will need to check with their sources, as they did with Sam Hurd.

Stereotyping has become a stock and trade for their discussions but not an uncommon one, relying upon race is the unfortunate component. Particularly when information is sparse. And yes, there are exceptions but those have been steadily whipped to the point of near irrelevancy. Either way it is a reliance upon convenient ignorance, something they seemed once above.

"Purple drank" indeed, and not something you get a pass on.
