Most songs are shallow and pointless.

I guess most in the sense that Casey Kasem's Top 40 countdown is populated by songs forgotten within weeks.

I still think most lasting songs blend lyrics with music for their success.

Catchiness goes a long way, dolphin. I like "Mmmbop" too.

And as far as "Call Me Maybe" is concerned, I'd suggest maybe there's a little more depth than you're giving it credit for having. Of course, it's probably going to sound shallow when sung by a teenaged girl. That was probably her point. That's where she's at.

That's just people emoting, but still the same drivel. The posted songs above are the musical equivalent of the SNL "ACTING!" skits. Bad words that are over wrought.

Dude, rock lyrics aren't Shakespeare. They aren't supposed to be.

This is great too:

"The heat was hot"
"There were plants and birds and rocks and things"

Even with my limited knowledge, I could give you a Rickian sized debate on that point. Lyrics are a poem. I get just wanting to have some fun with some music, and there are poems that do that as well, but if an artist is going to open up his mouth, he might as well just go ahead and say something.

Simple lyrics can be brilliant.

My Generation is definitely poetic.

They can also suck like "Love Me Do"

In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey
Butane in my veins and I'm out to cut the junkie
With the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables
Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose

Kill the headlights and put it in neutral
Stock car flamin' with a loser and the cruise control
Babies in Reno with the vitamin D
Got a couple of couches, sleep on the loveseat

Someone came in sayin' I'm insane to complain
About a shotgun wedding and a stain on my shirt
Don't believe everything that you breathe
You get a parking violation and a maggot on your sleeve

So shave your face with some mace in the dark
Savin' all your food stamps and burnin' down the trailer park
Yo, cut it

"I'm honored and excited to get my dream job at the place I consider my sports radio birthplace," said Spiegel, who in his spare time is lead singer for the rock band Tributosaurus, which he founded.

Just left. Voice was gone.

His voice is his craft.

It would be like if you were a carpenter but also competed in arm wrestling tournaments and frequently had to call in because your arm was sore

Correct.

Pick a lane, Meat.

Part time front man for a part time cover band and living in someones basement as you slowly eat yourself to death or a full time job that pays well, has benefits and is in a major market.

CHOOSE! WHICH ONE!??!?!?!

the call me maybe chick is in her mid-late 20's, which makes that song even more reprehensible.

Yeah, I just read that she's 27. That does cast the song in a bit of a different light. Still, it's a catchy pop song.

Meat's gotta have nodes or something. There's no way somebody who is a trained vocalist should be losing his voice as often as he does after gigs.

Lets see....Meat doesn't go to Arizona during spring training where he could interview players, coaches and executives to cover the great game of Baseball he espouses much love for. But he does go to Ireland to drink excessive amounts of free whiskey and then perform with his cover band, but afterwards finds himself incapable of doing his job. Seems someone has his priorities completely screwed up.

She's a graceful 27, though. I wish the girls I went to high school with were that kind of 27 today. Big Ten drinking can put some hard miles on a girl!
