Well, Colorado is 8-9-4 with a whopping 20 points and not very fearsome scoring only 2.4 GPG. Yawn. These guys are even worse on the Power Play than the Hawks. Just lost to the Period Fucks. I think their point leader is Parenteau with 9 and 10. Last I looked Hejduk was injured and listed as day to day. Oh and the Avs are 2-7-3 on the road

Hawks are still riding their win streak, and might add two more games with the Home and Home starting tonight at the YEW CEE. The second is Friday night in Colorado.

They play a very similar game to the Hawks(when the Hawks don't have a 3rd period lead that is). Fairly wide open and pressing the attack. Definitely a team that could catch the Hawks a bit tired on the 2nd half of a back to back.

I sure wouldn't want to be the Av's and have a 3 goal 3rd period lead tonight I know that much.

Word has it Emery is starting tonight. I'm sure that Walt will have something snotty to say to me about it if he allows less than 5 goals tonight.

I'm not sure if you Gays are just being obtuse, but I don't really understand these thread titles.

I'll hang up and listen for my answer

The Avs played in Detroit last night. Not sure they're in any better position to out work the Hawks due to fatigue.

Varlamov minding the net for the Avalanche. He's almost as terrible as having a 3-goal lead. Avalanche are in store for an asswhooping.

They're song lyrics or titles pertinent to the location or nickname of the opposition. I'll give you a list in a bit.

Minor point of order, "red wings" refers to oral.

P.A. Parenteau seemed like a sneaky-good player with the Isles, but I'm starting to suspect that was a case of picking up the points because somebody had to do it. We call this Florida Panthers Syndrome.

Yeah except for the part where their roster blows goats.

Nice to see "three-goal lead" become a meme. Shakes must be shaking. With rage!

Wasn't commenting on talent, but moreso their 'ideal' style of play.

Bollig sent back to Rockford. I couldn't be more okay with that. Now lock Carcillo onto permanent 4th line duties and life is good. Also means Montador must be able to remember his name and is close to returning

For tonight's song, "I know you rider", the next line would be " I'd shine my light thru the cool colorado rain"...
Which is a bit of a strech but I'm a Grateful Dead fan.

I mean, he'll be back, but we don't need him. Was there a corresponding promotion, or are we just carrying two scratches tonight? Why haven't we seen Jeremy Morin this year?

I don't know about that part. I think we've closed the book on Montador. If we haven't, we should, for his sake.

Couple o' things.

CH's use of obscure song titles/lyrics for opponents reminds me of a certain Hawks blog. Hmmm?

Yes Varlamov is shit, but just look how the sack o' shit Steve Mason plays the Hawks. Pretty tough and he is terrible.

If the Hawks are up by a couple goals tonight and I see them go into that 1-2-2 bullshit I'm going to chew my newborn son's face off. Q mentioned them letting up last night and hopefully the Captain can remind these fuckers not to fall asleep.

Can someone much more knowledgeable aboot hockey explain what makes a perfect PP set up. Movement, screening, movement behind the net, lots of puck cycling, or all the above?

I may have just answered myself.

I never know what the hell The Committed Indian is citing.

And Mason is having a bit of a bounceback year, not just against the Hawks.

I would agree re: the CI. I shouldn't have to Google that shit when I want to enjoy a pre-game thread.

Nice, that guy shouldn't even bring a stick on the ice, his hands are so useless. And not much of a fighter either, he's no John Scott.

IIRC not once but twice he tried to start a fight and got the 2 minute instigator penalty which is ridiculous.

From my post on 2/25...

Speaking of the PP, still waiting for the so called coaching staff to wake up and make some OBVIOUS changes that I've been clamoring for for two years.

For one, stop changing the fucking players every 30 seconds. There's no reason a PP should have 3 line changes during the 2 minutes. That's insane and completely counterproductive. Every time a new line comes out they need to regroup. I venture to guess they lose at least 30 seconds of PP time just from line changes.

Second of all, keep Kane on the ice the entire 2 minutes and put him on his off wing side boards and run the PP through him. All the great PP players on the league play the full PP. Ovie, Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos those guys never come off the ice during a PP. Kane is at that level in terms of PP creative ability. No reason he should be playing 45 seconds of a PP.

Third, change the entry and start using the entry that the Red Wings use. That entry involves the defenseman skating the puck almost to the blue line and then dropping it back to Datsyuk who the finds space and carries it over and gets it to a safe spot to set up the play. None of this pass it to a winger at the red line along the boards and have him try and skate it in through 2 defenders. None of this dump and chase which 8/10 times leads to a quick icing the other way. Instead have Keith or Leddy carry it through the neutral zone, bring it to the blue line, get the defense on its heels, and then drop it to Kane in the center of ice and let him find the hole and carry it over. When you've got a talent like Kane you need to use it.

I'll add that the key is really the entry. Blow the entry and you've just lost 20 seconds. the hawks are clueless in this regard. There's no rhyme or reason to their entries, no evidence of a system. Sometimes they dump and chase, sometimes they carry it over. Last night they even tried the long stretch pass to the highest winger at the red line which is the worst of all because that turns a 5 on 4 into a 1 on 3 with the winger trapped and waiting for teammates.

As for which system is the best, it depends on personnel. Watch the Penguins with Malkin and Crosby and you'll see tons of tic tac toe cross ice passes through the seams because they hvae the talent to pull that off. Watch a team like Detroit before Holmstrom retired and you'd see lots of point shots with that huge screener in front. IMO, Hawks best weapon is Kane. Put him on the sideboards and run a 2 man game with the point man, try to draw the D to the blueline and then slide it to kane and let him cut to the middle where he can either shoot, draw the low man and slide it to the near post winger, or draw the far side defender and he can throw it to the far post for a one timer.

There's some Fugazi in there, but it's mostly the kind of stuff a slightly reconstructed metalhead gets into in college: Jane's Addiction, Local H, Exile-era Stones. Tonight's preview is copped from Calvin and Hobbes.

Not a great play by Emery there on that goal... Should have been stopped.

Outside of that one shift by the Toews line, the Hawks got outworked that period. The Avs are one of the few teams in the game that can match the Hawks speed. Need to wake up.

Hawks won this period by not having a lead that they can lose. Nowhere to go but up.

Or down.

Nothing Emery could do on that goal. He was out to play the shot and the Avs player fanned on it and the puck went right to the guy on the near post. Emery recovered enough that he forced the guy to make a really nice forhand backhand move.

I'll look at another replay later... didn't look good at first glance.

I hate carcillo on the first line. I'm telling you that's gonna cost goals.
