Did anyone catch them talking about Russell and Chamberlain the other day? They were gushing over Russell's athleticism and Terry made a comment like "Wilt was not as nearly as skilled of an athlete as Russell". I couldn't believe what I was hearing from this old NBA scribe. Every player.... literally every player from Russell's era, including Russell himself, says Chamberlain was by far the most athletic player of that era and any era (that could probably be debated). Just about everyone says Wilt had freakish strength, incredible leaping ability and speed and these two guys (especially Terry) completely brush over it.

Because Jordan was a significantly better scorer and defender, while still being having tremendous passing ability (certainly not comparable to Magic).

Exactly. For guys who are so called "NBA guys" it was insane how uneducated they were to Chamberlain's mythologized athleticism.

He didn't play him even, he was destroyed, as was everyone else. Russell was fortunate to play with a slew of hall of famers. Chamberlain played on two truly great teams.

Even as a kid, I thought the force in which Elmer exclaimed, "KILL DA WABBITS!" was a bit much for a cartoon.

Quick statistical analysis shows Russell held Wilt to about 10 below his average, while Russell was right at his average. Plus Russell won most of the time. Wilt was better of course, but given his size compared to the rest of the league, how could he not dominate?

Could you provide that data because I don't think that's accurate. I believe Chamberlain averaged about 28.7 to Russell's 14.5. Really, Russell vs Chamberlain is not fair. Russell played on historic teams littered with hall of famers and Russell was a terrific player, but Chamberlain was by far the superior individual player who wasn't as fortunate to play on great teams.

Bernstein's utter infatuation with numbers and sabermetrics has not done anything positive for this show.

Wilt was a great defender and rebounder as well. Chamberlain is the most prolific rebounder in league history.

Look, Terry said that just looking at BB skill relative to athletic ability, Russell was more "skilled." Given the huge physical size difference I don't think that is that controversial a statement. Terry is actually old enough to have seen these guys play. I'll take his word for it over yours.
