I heard yesterday that Jay Mohr audtioned for the babysitter and then Kush the QB before getting the role of Bob Sugar in Jerry Maguire and it reminded me how much I love hearing stuff like that.

James Caan was supposed to be Rocky

Michael Madson was supposed to play Travolta's role in Pulp Fiction

This thread will be for facts like that.

Eye of the Tiger came about because Freddie Mercury told Stallone he could not use Another One Bites the Dust

The list of movies Travolta turned down is ridiculous.

Some of those early Bond toupee's were solid. I figured he lost his hair after those movies.

In The Godfather (1972), John Marley’s (Jack Wolz) scream of horror in the horse head scene was real, as he was not told that a real horse head, which was obtained from a dog food company, was going to be used.

 that is messed up

The dont tell the actors its going to happen thing is pretty common

Same thing in the "funny like a clown" scene in Goodfellas. It wasnt in the script. Pesci said he saw some real mob guys do that and wanted to try it....so when Ray Liotta is looking like WTF...he really was

Same thing in the opening to Jaws. The drunk chick swimming didnt know what/when to expect being pulled under and thrashed around. I heard Spielberg was the guy actually controlling it as well.

During the shooting of the Russian Roulette scenes in The Deer Hunter, Robert DeNiro requested that one
live round be present in the gun. ( Of course they checked it before firing the gun, but DeNiro thought it
amped up the intensity to have it loaded )

Lunatic

Daniel Day Lewis refused to walk in My Left foot. Crew members carried him everywhere even when the cameras stopped rolling

Harvey Keitel was supposed to play Martin Sheen's Role in Apocalypse Now

He was already over there shooting but Coppola screamed at him and Harvey let out a "You wouldnt treat Brando this way"

He was sent home that day. And Martin Sheen was cast the same week.

Didn't Charlie tell that story when he was on with Mohr?

Yeah. So it could be made up or drug induced, but it sounds right.

Thats part of why I love Mohr Stories.

Eric Stoltz was the original Marty McFly, but Robert Zemekis hates those "Goddamn Ginger Bastards"

I think I read something that Stoltz realized he wasnt the best choice and was only doing because Fox couldnt get away from Family Ties or something. Once Fox got the OK Stoltz stepped aside for the good of everyone who enjoys films about rapists, sociopathic scientists and accidental incest.

In the first Lord of the Rings movie, when the Uruk-hai warrior throws the knife at Aragorn - Viggo Mortensen (after Boramir is killed), the actor playing the warrior wasn't supposed to throw until later in the scene sequence. So, when Viggo swings the sword to knock the knife away...it actually happened.

When Leo DeCaprio slams his hand on the desk in Django Unchained, he actually cut himself on his hand. The scene continues, and his actions with Django's wife are unscripted...they kept the scene in the movie.
later, they show him signing the bill of sale with his hand wrapped.

Norm MacDonald playing Burt Reynolds playing Han Solo would have been great...
