What? Is this a bit?

Btw, personally I only literally mean "go fuck yourself" when I say it to a hot chick.

What about people who use the word "Unicorn"?

Do you think they believe Unicorns exist in their hearts?

People don't attach real meaning to the word Unicorn or fudge nuts. There is way too much of use of damn and the GD phrase for God and hell to not exist.

They dont attach real meaning to Go to hell either. People dont want you to go to hell, its a softer way of saying Fuck off.

I continue to be fascinated by your belief system

Is it blasphemous to contemplate whether or not Jesus Christ could hit a curveball? Why or why not?

Why use that terminology of "hell," then if such a place does not exist? Where is it that people who do not believe hell exists believe that people go to when they die?

Why use the name of "Jesus" if you don't believe he exists? Why not Buddha, Mohammed, Allah or one of the other religions? Why is it okay to use the name of Christ carelessly as a blasphemous little word when his name is brings peace and forgiveness to so many around the globe?

We just went over this.

People also say Unicorn and Leprechaun. If you believe that Jesus must be real, or people must believe in hell because they speak of it, then you have to believe in Unicorns, Leprechauns, and phrases like "laughing all the way to the bank"

I do believe it to be true, but certainly some things are not meant to be taken and applied to your life in a literal way. In Mark 9:47 Jesus said, "And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell." While I do think Jesus means going to hell with two eyes is worse than going to heaven with one eye, I don't think he means that you should be plucking your eye out if you have a problem with lust for example.

Why does Jesus say this if he doesn't actually mean it and believe in it!?

If I dont believe the Bible or Christianity, then it makes perfect sense to use a word like Jesus profanely. It would be exactly BECAUSE I didn't believe in him. If I did, I'd be much less likely to use it.

Are you telling us that this is hard for you to comprehend?

Mini Ditka,

If someone claims that a three goal lead is the most dangerous lead in hockey, do you take them literally? Do you think people have said this, even if they dont believe it? Do you live this game?

You'd have somewhat of a point if all religious people didn't say Jesus or Jesus Christ. But some do.

And people who don't believe in hell believe your body goes where ever it gets put.

The difference is that Jesus actually believes in hell. In one part of the gospels there is a discussion about this tower this fell on these people and Jesus says to them if you don't repent you're going to perish just like them. Jesus' message is to repent and follow him because he is the way to God the Father. He says in the Gospel of John that he existed before Abraham. The gospel of John says that Jesus is the Word of God and was the Word by which the world was created.

No, my mom was upfront with us because she didn't believe in lying to her kids about a fictional character.

Again, I implore a number of you fucking halfwits to once and for all learn what "believe" means.

Having said that, Jesus doesn't "believe" anything, you dolts; He's the Divine and thus is omniscient.

'Knowing' and 'believing' are conceptual polar opposites.

I don't think so. He's just smart enough to realize he can never admit to have saying Santa Claus.

Sounds like when you could not admit you would rather see Purdue as a 16 seed in a national playoff over the Rose bowel.

You do realize that Santa Claus is based on St. Nicholas?

I don't know why you are so hung up on that very basic concept but I completely stand by it and believe that most Big Ten fans would agree.

"based on" is the key. It's still a completely fictional story, and yet Christians around the world, including you, say the words all the time.

There is a whole bunch of shit in the Bible that is pretty much fiction.

No, it's not. There's two separate issues here. The portion you quote earlier, and the Testimonium. He's right that the Testimonium is almost universally rejected. It literally makes no sense being there.

As for the bit in Antiquities, "the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, whose name was James," stop and consider: if Josephus is actually referencing the Jesus Christ here, then he's certainly aware of him, and presumably, his followers. Yet this is the only time he mentions it, ever. Really? That makes sense? A supposed miracle worker starts a new religion in region Josephus wrote about extensively, and yet he only mentions him one time, in passing?

Sorry, that simply strains credulity.

It makes sense if you understand Josephus's background. It is exactly the kind of mention he would use, and it shows that Christians didn't "get to" and re-arrange his writing to shoehorn in Jesus. Otherwise, if they were putting something in, wouldn't they make it agree with their own biblical account? Josephus's account is understood by a majority to refer to Jesus of Nazareth, who claimed to be the song of God.
