Not sure where the need to have a slogan started. Some I think just developed during a season (Winning Ugly, We Are Family), but forcing a mantra on a team annually is forced hype. Real hype can't be faked, it needs to develop from the fan base.

COMMITTED has some promise, only if it is now used for the next 2-3 years.

If you change COMMITTED next year to something else, are you really COMMITTED? Nope. It just makes you see like a franchise desperate for attention...Grinder rule #348, All in, The Kids can play, etc.....or YEAR ONE.

The Irony that comes from all this shit is that teams spend tons of money on developing a slogan that fans will like, when they could spend a small fraction of that and hire a group of fans to come up with a slogan! Instead they find some Ivy League grads who claim to know the teams culture and understand it. (This goes for the cubs and sox)

Anyone who thinks Theo Epstein is smarter than everyone else in baseball should be COMMITTED to an insane asylum.

If they really are committed why is the dominant team in the 2nd or 3rd biggest baseball market 14th in payroll?

I think he is very good at hiring very smart people and making sure that others do a good job. Which is what you want in a top guy...be it the President of your team or the President of a Country!

Not the best slogan. Just add it to the stable of terrible slogan Chicago baseball slogans the Sox specialize in.

And also throw in the ignorant fucking songs that are played before the beginning of the radio broadcasts. For some reason, they think it's necessary to pen some cheesy-ass song every few years.

I was hoping all this shit (slogans, dumb songs, 7th inning stretch) was going to end with the new bosses. I guess the need to placate the stupid is still there.

Some guy being payed to work on the Sox slogan used to troll whitesoxinteractive for ideas. He was open about it and, of course, those douchebags lapped it up. I was the only one who wondered why WE would give HIM ideas that HE was being payed to create. The general membership was more than happy to just get a pat on the head and I was shouted down.

When Ricketts took over, Crane KKK took over the search for the new marketing guy.

I know one of the finalist. Diehard Chicago cubs guy, been a fan his whole life, understands the issues as much as anyone. Crane hired the guy they just fired this offseason.

Thanks for that, Curious. I was missing that audio splendor that is Cubs pre-game.

And I heard another one of these ignorant COMMITTED spots today. Wrigleyville asshat meets female Wrigleyville asshat. Love ensues. Shut the fuck up, already.

And that asshat...after years of hard work...went on...to buy...the team. And now you know...the rest...of the story.

Southpaw is a great example of a bad idea. Might be one of the scariest mascots the CDC has ever produced.

Let me add though to the Cubs foolishness with this Sub ad campaign of "This Love deserves a ring" seen on many billboards.

HEY, MR FIRST YEAR MARKETING GUY! WE KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll never forget when people were calling up DER SCHNORR with eyewitness reports of A WOMAN WHO LOOKS LIKE THEO'S WIFE AT STARBUCKS. those were magical times.

i lol'd at biggie's standup-comedy-type-riff on the committed slogan. that's dead on.... i also LOL @ these stupid commercials with the touching music where joe blow cubs fan talks about how he teaches his kid that you never give up at the end of a game cuz even if they're down 10-1 in the 8th... anything can happen! that's the essence of baseball.

it sounded to me like "anything could happen" would be the slogan of the 2013 cubs (which would be 2nd to my top slogan "THE CHICAGO CUBS: WHY THE FUCK NOT?!?!) but hey if it's committed, let's just say that many cubs fans indeed should be committed....... to the team!

So JORR & CLH,what do you think the Cubs should be doing right now?
I want rebuilding but I guess I'm out of line by saying if you don't have a youngster to play,go sign someone capable of playing. They are trying that approach a little more this year. No one should ever be allowed to lose 101 games in any plan!

I'm certainly not a baseball expert, just agreeing that I think Theo is put on a pedestal that he inherited while in Boston. I think you have to be skeptical to think that his plan will succeed. Will it? Maybe. Don't know.

Theo is ALL IN for real.

This guy will either be seen as the Smartest guy in baseball (as Joe Orr will love) or he will literally be run out of town, one or the other is coming.

It's not just a matter of being smart. it's having a plan and sticking to it. It's not letting public pressure sway you from that plan, but being committed to it and seeing it through. the only move that Theo has made that I have real issue with, is the signing of Edwin Jackson. It really violated the model being used. Otherwise he has been faithful to the plan.
