Who is more likely to go to ten+ games a year- a 24 year old guy living on the corner of Roscoe and Racine with four roommates or the 39 year old guy in Schaumburg with a two year old and a six year old and three big screen TVs?

24 year old guys don't have any money...

So, I'm gonna go with the 39 year old.

Take the 25 acres & go to Rosemont. Please. Mike North likes this idea.

Agreed. Even as a Cubs fan I've gone to more Sox games than Cubs simply due to the affordability.

Even Tigers tickets are more affordable than the Cubs.

That's because Detroit has no economy left. You can get Tigers tickets for foodstuffs or soap.

The 24 year old can still move close to the new stadium. I had friends who moved close to downtown Naperville after college because it was cheaper and easier than going into the city. There would be high demand to be within walking distance of the new stadium and the bars around it.

Day game baseball may or not have cost the team players or wins, but I think that it is what filled the stadium. Day baseball in town is awesome, especially for us out-of-staters. night games, better for the local fans

I love the Cubs, but I frequently turn down free tickets because its such a pain in the ass to get to Wrigley Field. It isn't worth it to me anymore. If either the Cubs or Sox were in the suburbs, I would go to games.
The Sox really screwed up when they build new Cominskey field in the City. That park would be full every night if it were in the 'burbs.

but come on, the day games and wrigley had nothing to do with getting swept by the Dodgers and Dbacks. It has nothing to do with losing to the Marlins in 03.

How bout the years they were a handful of games out of the playoffs? Day games affect that?

And, I think having a fucked up body clock is pretty severe, especially when your job is so physical.

Its not THE reason, but it certainly doesnt help.

JORR, Kerry Wood himself has said the day games are a problem and Dawson was more drawn to the natural grass (my guy!) than the day games.

Just seems like excuse making to me.

You are a professional ball player. If they want you to play at 10am then play at 10am.

Have there really been many seasons where they were just a handful of games out?

In a perfect world, you're right, but we dont live in one.

These are guys who have likely never had to wake up for a job in their life. Just play ball (mostly at night)

Think about this, what if one NBA team had all its games at 11am? Wouldnt you expect some issues?

As far as how many years they were close, Id say 69 and 84 qualify. 2001 they were close.

Im not saying its the only reason, but its the only reason that can be corrected so easily.

Ok I am going to break some news here. It looks like the Cubs fans who have given up on life and live in the suburbs want the stadium in Schaumont but those that live in the city think it should stay at Wrigley. Let me just pick up my monocle off the ground it fell out from shock.

I don't think that's the case. The "Wrigley Experience" is 24 year old guys and girls. It's the bleachers. A guy like Scorehead may think a seat behind the plate is the best in the house, but he can't get off his couch to get to a game. Hell, he doesn't even go when it's free.

And I'm not sure what 24 year old wants to move to Rosemont to be next to some fucking stadium. I guarantee you this: if the Cubs ever leave the city, you'll see the Sox get a lot more popular.

You don't have to worry, Phil. The Cubs aren't going anywhere.

I wasn't worried. You just need to convince the rest of the suburban Cubs fans that Rosemont/Schaumberg blow.

Why not? You do realize that a lot of 24 year olds choose not to live in the city?

Only if they are freeloading off parents or named IMU.

That's oversimplifying it a bit.

It could be technically renovation to maintain landmark status, but still be a complete rebuild

I don't think them tearing down the building completely and rebuilding it from the ground up would fly as a "renovation" from the cities perspective.

I do not believe for a second the city would not approve a complete replica rebuild. Minus of course the new necessary amenities which could be hidden in the context of the old look.

LOL! So wait. Alderman Tunney won't relax the landmark / zoning restrictions for more night games and outfield signs, but he will relax it to tear down one of the things that makes Wrigley Wrigley? What a joke.

I got this problem solved. Cubs need to play here moving forward. It's the team that draws not the area.

I wonder where in Rosemont. They should tear down that theater. The entertainment it draws there is pure second rate.

So would all the people buried in Graceland because of its proximity to Wrigley be exhumed or can I safely assume that they will claw their way to the surface and amble westward towards the Kennedy with little or no coaxing?

From what experts have said, ticket sales are going to be a very minor portion of the income the Cubs will be making once they can get new broadcasting rights deals/create their own broadcasting network. The idea of having the rights to build a new stadium as they see fit and adorn it with signage as they choose is not unreasonable....IT'S THEIR BALLPARK! Leaving the city would be a crippling blow to a city that already has huge financial problems. But if the mayor and the flaming alderman want to continue to be difficult, I wouldn't blame the Cubs for moving. I would miss the park, but if they built a ballpark like Miller park, that would be fine by me.

That's so shortsighted. The Bleachers hold less than a 5th of the crowd...and I've gone to more Cubs games in my 30s than I ever did in my 20s.

If you build it they will come.
