I think the whole X days straight of sobriety thing sets you up for feeling like a failure. It puts pressure on you and then makes it seem like an insurmountable task to sober up again. The overwhelming majority of people fall off the wagon. You're just one of majority. Start up again and don't even consider this little blip.

Think of it more like a vacation from sobriety. Tomorrow you get back to normal days and don't bother counting in the future.

I agree with this 100%. Everybody makes mistakes but the strength you show is in coming back and taking that control back.

Good luck, A7X.

It's very difficult to improve upon what Dolphin said. Here's hoping tomorrow is better than today, and so on and so on.

This, and what gd said.

I love this board...we come, we go...we love/hate, cheer together/taunt each other, asslick/insult ... and I haven't started on the Politics section!!
But this board is truly at its best when one of us asks for support from the rest, because without fail, we come together!!

Yup. With the exception of one raving penis who posts here, you're exactly right.

Stoneroses86 nearly lost everything because of the abuse of intoxicants. Now look at me, I am mighty and strong nearly fifteen (15) years later.

Good Dolphin is mostly accurate, in that it is unwise to become too upset over one's failures in remaining sober. At some point, however, it becomes unhealthy to view each failure as simply a temporary obstacle which can easily be overcome by re-committing to sobriety. At some point, there has to be a realization that the drug or the alcohol will kill you.

When one reaches that realization, it is not merely a matter of counting days - that is insignificant really. It is far more importantly a matter of embracing life and turning one's back on the ugly alternative.

and don't feel shame. It's just something you did, no different what you ate for dinner. Shame is unproductive. Leave the shame to stoneroses as Brian Cashman talks about selling off parts in July during the middle of a lost season.

I know exactly what you're going thru, last June I started throwing up blood and had to have my esophogheal varices mended, and blood transfusions.
You may not be able to say for certain whether or not you'll drink tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself, but be strong today. You CAN control today.
Best of luck.

You cannot trick me into going into an unproductive rant when I am in the middle of trying to save a man's life.

Sevenfold, quitting's easy, you've done it many times before and you'll do it again.
I'm not a praying man. However, my thoughts are with you, my friend. My hope is to hear you well again.

One thing you need to consider is what triggered the fall. If it's friends you were with, cut them out of your life. If it's a place you went to, avoid it. If it's the stress of some situation that came up-recognize it and next time something is getting to you realize you can't always handle it alone and call your sponsor or someone who might help. DON'T treat it like a fucking vacation/break from sobriety. This disease isn't a joke and may kill you someday. Figure out how it came about and try to make sure it doesn't happen again. I hope by now you are back on the wagon and doing better.
