Is this a commonly held view? I don't think I know 1 Cubs fan who thinks this.

You're kidding me. It seems to be a pretty commonly held view.

I wasn't kidding. I'm going by the Cub fans I know. The opinion I hear is "I'd rather go to Miller Park"......"Move"..... "Bulldoze it"

Those links you provide look like they are from out-of-towners. I was talking about the Cubs fans I know. I don't give a shit what someone from Ontario, Tampa, Durham, Lexington NE, N. California, Whitby Canada, Brick, NJ (I'll stop there) thinks. Of course someone who goes to 1 game in their lifetime or maybe 1 game every 5-10 years is going to think it's all part of the "experience". I think it's a pain in the ass.

I know a lot of Cubs fan that don't feel that way. But anyway, I assume that a Cub fan will go watch his team regardless of where they play (except Scorehead who finds it too difficult even when the tickets are free but manages all kinds of strong opinions on the subject anyway). But the thing that makes them so "popular" is all those fans from everywhere that go to one game per season or in a lifetime. That's the irony. If they do build TD Ameritrade Field At Daddano Park I have zero doubt they will make less money over the long haul. Zero.

I enjoy coming down to Wrigley for the whole experience of all that it brings, but the ballpark itself is a shithole. Everything in the joint is outdated.

and the uninformed beat goes on with Rozner. Hanley isn't smart so he is allowed ignorant opinions. I expect more from Rozner. Are his hockey opinoins as obviously biased?

at the very least, recognize that asking a municipality to shut down a street 81+ times per year (no Cubs fans, + doesn't mean playoffs, it means concerts) and to expand hours of operation isn't just asking to let them operate their business

Matt, you're missing the point. The majority of people that go to the games are out of towners. That's the appeal of Wrigley...it draws more from outside Chicago than inside.

BUT THE RED SOCKS DOES IT WITH THERE OLD PARK

I've abandoned all hope that anyone on the Score will espouse an opinion that doesn't endorse enriching big business at the expense of everyone and everything that isn't big business. And I'm sure they'll justify it by saying that it will help the Cubs win ballgames because REVENUE. Yeah, tearing the shit out of the outfield with stages and seas of humanity is just great for the baseball-ops side. Unless you're supposing that they'll somehow have all these outdoor concerts in November and March? or that knowing how to play the dead spots from scaffolds, stampedes, and piss will become as much a part of home field as adjusting to how the wind blows?

I made a point about this a while back. This is a dying source of fans I believe. There are not as many if any Cubs games nationally anymore. And all of the old folks that watched WGN on cable from Iowa or wherever are dying off. Same with Braves. Since they made the Cubs and Braves pull their games off their cable superstations I would say they lost fans.

Okay.......and if they think it's the greatest place in the world to watch a game, they are wrong. Which is what I disagreed with JORR on. Like I said, they think this because they are from out of town and buy into the whole "Wrigley" experience B.S.

I agree with PittMike. Seems to be a generational thing. I'd be curious to see an attendance breakdown. I'd guess the days of 20 tour buses lining up outside of Wrigley are probably winding down.

Joe, I know a lot of guys like me who are middle aged suburbanites who feel the same way about going to Wrigley...its not worth the hassle. Sure, when we were young we'd hop on the train or El & go have a good time, but as we age, convenience becomes more important, at least to me anyway. I'm not interested in going through the BS necessary to go to a Cubs game with parking or the train, traffic, etc. I love the Cubs, but frankly I'd rather go about 10 minutes from my house, park for free, pay $8 for a ticket, get great food & watch the KC Cougars.

I'm not bashing you. I know you're a Cub fan and I don't think there's any litmus test for fans. You can be a fan anyway you want. But at some point a fan probably shouldn't have so many excuses for not attending games of his supposed favorite team. And I've just found that a lot of guys who never pay for tickets or hardly go to games seem to have some of the strongest opinions on the ballparks. Plural, not just the North side park either.

I've been to probably 1 Cub game in the last 5 years. The "Wrigley experience" is the reason I don't. If the Cubs played at the Cell, I'd probably go to 3 a year. Just the tailgating factor alone would seal the deal.

And I don't think shitty parking and a dump of a park is making excuses as to why one doesn't go to a game.

And I totally agree with the age factor Scorehead brought up. When I was in high school and college, we would load up my 77 Mercury Marquis and come to 5-7 games a summer. Who cares about parking? We're in Chicago at a Cubs game. Well, eventually that wears off.

They're the most profitable team in baseball. I doubt they would be without that park. I'm not saying you have to like it, but I think you're in the minority.

a 25% drop in payroll doesn't hurt the bottom line, either.
