And there's my problem with Emery. And if he thought McClellan could, I'm even more worried.

The McClellan pick is more than offset by Emery's free agent signings.

Never. In the hierarchy of value a great first round selection (not pick but an actual player) is gold for many reasons.

No they don't. These FA's are being brought in on 1 year deals. Your 1st round picks are supposed to be the cornerstones of your team. If you think the Bears are going to spend their way out of bad 1st round picks and somehow be successful, you're wrong. And it totally negates the idea of hiring a "draft guru" as your GM.

Brandon Marshall is a long term acquisition who will be more valuable than any player the Bears would have or will draft.

You were referencing free agents. Not trade acquisitions. Of course Marshall is a great acquisition for the Bears. Johnny Morris and Harlan Hill are the 2 top WR's in Bears history. That's an absolute no-brainer of a trade that any half-brained GM with a team with no WR's would have made.

If you think Emery is somehow going to consistently trade for a Brandon Marshall to cover up bad drafting, you're in for a letdown. And if Emery doesn't ever draft a player comparable to or better than Marshall, then the Bears are screwed. You can't keep trading for and signing stud players. At some point, you have to draft and develop them.

It actually may have been a bad move. The rumor out of Miami is the Dolphins were going to cut him. The Bears could have gotten him for a lot less. There wasn't a huge market for him with his salary and he already wanted to play with Cutler again.

That's old news. Either way, Marshall was a steal. With regards to Emery's drafts, does anyone doubt that he will draft better than Jerry Angelo?

I love the Marshall acquisition but if the Bears could have picked him up in free agency for 1/3 of the cost and without giving up a draft pick I don't know anyone who would believe that was a better deal. Angelo was pretty good drafting defensive players.

Angelo drafted Tillman & Briggs in 2003. Not much after that.

Here is a link to every draft pick made by Angelo while the Bears GM.

Several Mock drafts have the Bears taking Alec Ogletree LB out of Georgia with their first round pick.
