For the first time in forever I could care less that opening day is Monday.

Is it because I know the Cubs are putting a shit product out there again in order to build the minor league system? Is it because I am more than content watching the Hawks and Nascar and the NFL off season right now? Is it because its still cold as fuck outside and it doesn't seem like baseball season yet? Maybe come Monday when I actually see teams playing real games I will immediately care.

I do not believe you. As soon as the real games start you will be locked in.

I care. Cubs will win a wild card spot this year. Should be fun to watch.

I felt this way last year going into the opener. This year I realize that the guys on this team are essentially
going to be the building blocks to the next 3-4 years of whatever Cubs baseball is considered. I believe I
tuned in for less than 5 games last year. Going to give them a real chance this year and try to learn more
about the roster and coach. Probably will watch some Brewers baseball as well since there is a decent chance
I'll go to a game up here before Wrigley but most of my focus will be on the Cubs baseball wise.

I'm ready for Opening Day!

Kane County Cougars Opening Day, that is.

I'll be there for the Cubs too.

I'm going to be out of town on Monday and I probably won't catch Opening Day on TV or radio for the first time since high school. Kinda bummed, no matter how bad the team is.

Most people don't hit the moonshine this early in the morning; commendable.

I take much less joy in my work when you are despondent before the first game is played.

There is nothing like the joy of the moment when your hopes are crushed in the middle of a season.

I'm still excited to follow the minor league games but the big league team added no one of substance that will be around when it matters so its still following only Castro, Rizzo and Shark and no one else......well maybe the new closer once they get rid of shithead Marmol.

Jackson isn't even making the roster is he? Back in Iowa again I thought.

he's hurt. He'll be back up once they unload Soriano.

Marmol was god fucking awful again yesterday. 10 million for that piece of shit is a joke.

I am still excited despite my constant bitching about the team. I have them for 71 wins, but if the hitting is better than we expect, they might flirt with .500 or better.

Players that might surprise:

Both Cub catchers look solid.
I still hope Luis Valebuena can be something at 3rd.
Hairston & Sappelt would play for me everyday until they prove they can't.

The catching situation should be improved from an offensive perspective and when Navarro plays, from a defensive one too. Valbuena is a nice defensive player but we know he only hits in spurts with long slumps in between. Hairston will probably get 400 at bats, Sappelt perhaps half that many. 71 wins is probably about right. I just wish the high A club was in Kane County rather than Daytona, to have an easy time going to see guys like Almora and Soler. Watching Baez would be nice too. Oh well, Rizzo and Castro are good to follow at this point.

Barney is out for a few days while his knee heals. He apparently cut it pretty bad running into the wall in Houston and had to get stitched back together.

I am indifferent. Last year I was so busy the first couple weeks I didn't have time to watch, nor really tried to since I knew they were going to be bad. After they started like 3-10 or so I decided I wasn't even going to try and watch. It was easier than I thought. They're probably going to be bad again but if they can keep it interesting till mid July that would be nice. Plus I have Starlin Castro on my fantasy team.

The Reds apparently designated Jose Arredondo, who was pretty damn good last year, and he cleared waivers while the 10 million dollar pile of shit is still closing for the Cubs. This is a huge miss for any teams that need bullpen help. He already has his Tommy John out of the way.

I will DVD the opener. Usually I would make sure to watch it live, but not last year or this year. I agree with most that there are only a handful of guys that are keepers and that this season is about developing the prospects. Hopefully Castro matures and Rizzo proves last year wasn't a fluke and that Shark is real. Besides that, maybe Castillo will prove a keeper or Barney will grow more offensively, but that's really about it.

Frankly I'm hoping Ricketts grows a pair and starts to realize they should leave the city and build a real stadium in the suburbs. Fuck Tunney and the rooftop owners, etc. They need 60+ night games and no restrictions on revenue streams, neither of which they'll ever realize at Wrigley.

I'd be shocked if they ever left Wrigley but it really needs to happen. Besides that, I'm looking foward to 2015!

Need it for what? To be as profitable as the Cincinnati Reds?
