Could replace it with anything. Does your old business partner complain every single day about being in jail?

If not, does that mean he's happy with it?

I'll change it because you asked. But I think you underestimate our fellow CSFMBers.

I didnt mean you had to change it. I just wasnt sure if you got my point or were mocking it.

How can one be excited about a plan, especially for one dictating such patience? I never said I was excited.

I said I'm happy there is a plan for sustained success. It's the 1st time I remember the Cubs having a "template" in my 23 years of living for sustained success. I'm happy my team is implementing an organizational philosphy that has a proven track record of success.

Please twist above to whatever argument you want. It's whatevs now.

Reader, is there another team that hasnt won for 104 years and was actually known as loveable losers?

I think there are a few teams that are unique. Yankees, Marlins, Cubs, Red Sox...

Oh, you're "happy" but not "excited". What an idiot I am to misread you.

Fine I'm excited, ecstatic, exhilirated, feverish, enthusiatic, thrilled, delighted, etc.

If I could, I would want to have sex with the plan.

This is my time being a participant in a argument with Rick. Holy hell do I want to set myself on fire and run into traffic. Unbearable.

Actually being known as "loveable losers" isn't exactly a positive unique attribute imo. I've long thought Red Sox "Nation" & their formerly long suffering fans as much of a joke as I find many meatball Cub fans. Aside from the "aura" of their ballparks, neither team is particularly memorable or noteworthy in my opinion.

There is as Stoneroses would claim, only one positively unique team. The rest are wildly successful PR stories.

He will probably change the argument at least once and claim to be arguing about something that was never even brought up.

I never said it was a positive unique attribute, just unique.

I think certain teams/markets have different challenges. That's all.

That is not going to happen unless the Cubs spent literally a billion dollars on starting pitching. Yes, a billion over 12 oe 14 years. The Braves one of the best starting rotations in MLB history for a while there in the 90s. Part of that is development, and part of that is luck. Its also a different day and age where pitching contracts are flat out motherfucking insanely rich.

Don't forget that part of it was also on the ineptitude of the Cubs.

That's the luck part of it. The Braves had a Cy Young winner entering the prime of his career basically fall in their lap.

(WSCR) It’s neither a secret, nor a surprise the Cubs are in a massive rebuilding process never before seen to this extent on the North Side

But the way the Cubs are going about this rebuilding process is perplexing to Gordon Wittenmyer, who covers the Cubs for the Chicago Sun-Time.

Wittenmyer joined The Mully and Hanley Show on Thursday to discuss concerns he has regarding the way Tom Ricketts and Theo Epstein are conducting their business.

“I’m certainly not advocating throwing money at every free agent that comes along every year,” Wittenmyer said. “We’ve seen colossal failures in that philosophy across the league. That’s obviously not a cure-all for anything. They’re pocketing a lot of money for instance on the rebuild process.

play
Gordon Wittenmyer On The Mully and Hanley ShowGordon Wittenmyer

“This is the first time in the history of 30 years of free agency, 30-plus years, where a major-market team has intentionally gone into seasons rebuilding with youth and on the cheap. They’re not doing it (by) scaling back ticket prices to any degree that matters – they’re still the third-highest prices in the game. I don’t know what they’re saying they’re selling, but it’s not competitive baseball. They’re selling Theo, they’re selling hope.”

The Cubs have seemingly been trying to emulate the Red Sox’s model of rebuilding in an old ballpark, but Wittenmyer thinks they’re even failing at that.

“The Boston Red Sox have been their model for growing revenue and making an old ballpark work and the whole thing,” he said. “If you go back and look at what the Red Sox did, they won in ’04, they won in ’07 and then they went crazy trying to capitalize on that. That’s when most of the changes, the significant major changes in marketing that team took place and shutting down the streets and modifications of the ballpark and a lot of the other revenue-growing things. They capitalized on winning. Here, they’re capitalizing on ‘wait ’til next year.’”

More strong words from Gordy.

It kinda makes sense but it also is starting to feel like he has a grudge against either Ricketts, Theo, or both.

I mean it feels a little too personal for him.

And the line about the first major market team to go on the cheap is laughable.

Phillies, Mets, Dodgers, have all done it in the last 10 years

"More strong words"?

Those are the first strong words from him. As you pointed out, they are incorrect strong words.

He is wrong about the Fenway thing as well. Before the world series wins, the Red Sox were all to happy to sell their lovable loserdom and old ballpark to a multistate fanbase. I cannot tell you how many times I saw people like Dennis Leary talking about Bucky "effing" Dent and The Curse of the Bambino. When they won they simply altered their marketing a little towards the pink hat wearing crowd.

Well, I think the opening day article was pretty strong

But the line about No team in the history of FA is really bad. Sounds like he researched it but obviously he didnt.

Methinks Gordy got denied some sort of access and this is his retribution
