so, I gave the new ESPN 1000 a 5 minute test on my Tunein app. And I got Steven A. Stupid.

So, back to Boers and Bernstein. We're running range on Steve Alford. Unlike CTE, Penn State and Lance Armstrong, I can get behind this campaign. I played with and against Pierre Pierce and he was a menace to society.

Why the outrage for Alford? Yes he seems to be a tool since I watched him play and of course Iowa was terrible but why? He has nothing to do with Illinois nor has he ever. Why do these guys go so strong when you can talk about 100 different local things today?

Pierce was named to the roster of Golden State Warriors' 2007 NBA Summer League competition in Las Vegas,[44] in which he played impressively,[45][46] averaging 21.5 points in his first two games.[47] Because the terms of his probation prevented him from leaving Iowa to pursue a career with the NBA,[48][49] his participation in the Nevada-based summer league was a violation, which resulted in him being sentenced in April 2008 to 30 days' jail.[36]

Maybe the following column might shed some light on Bernsy's disdain for Steve Alford. He explains why "UCLA Hired a Scumbag" here:

Yes I read that but what is the local angle to override Sox, Cubs and NW/Collins today?

they're talking N/W Collins at the moment.

Why would you want to talk either Cubs or Sox? I'd rather talk Bulls than Cubs at this point, both have an equal opportunity to a championship...

Nothing, but the column was written yesterday. Those guys didn't have a lot of time to discuss UCLA's decision to hire a guy whom those guys have despized since he coached Iowa.

The point being that Im sure more of their audience cares about NW, the Hawks, Cubs, Sox, or Bulls more than they do about UCLA's new head basketball coach.

It's not stopping them from talking to a UCLA beat writer at 5P today. Regardless who's now calling the shots, UCLA is an absolute mess these days. SI's George Doermann wrote a pretty damning story about partying & lack of control near the end of ex-HC Ben Howland's tenure in Westwood. I get the impression Steve Alford has his work cut out for him.

the correct way to state it is Steve Alford is screwed from the start.

They used to have Izzo on a lot when they were on from 10-2. They seemed to really enjoy talking to him.

I'm convinced that behind any successful program is a dirty coach.

COF what did Pierce do at Westmont?

I don't think it's a good hire for UCLA hiring Steve Alford. Ditto USC hiring FL Gulf Coast HC Andy Enfield.

UCLA and USc needed to go the Kentucky route. Market to the 1 and done.

Problem with playing in LA is that a kid with even a hint of talent is offered up so many deals from agents, they are gone in one year, if they have any talent. Too bad if they dont get drafted. When you live in a town with an agent every 15 feet, thats what you get.

How is one "stupid" for not knowing the Steve Alford story? That was Terry's response when Dan asked how people didn't know about it.

Dan is relishing the chance to wear his Mike Wallace hat. And Terry calling anyone stupid is insulting.

Moment of silence please for Mike Wallace, the CBS News' "60 Minutes" correspondent. Thank you.

I may get a B & B bingo in one post here Mike. Alford, slow, tiny, white, grindy, good shooter, no floor game, played for Bob Knight. Fits the profile for why they dont like a guy right out of the chute.

The Alford stuff goes back to Pierre Pierce in 2002, and I sincerely hope that nobody in this thread actually tries to make the case that Alford is a good dude. I know this has become the narrative section, but sometimes there's just only one way to look at things.

"allegedly" assaulted girls on at least two separate occasions. Violent sexual assault.

Yes, Alford is a scumbag. If he were black and played for Kentucky they would not spend nearly this much time ripping him.
