Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute. Dan actually said something about breeding? I thought JORR was just making shit up!

Alford is blessed with being white and definitely SHOULD know better

Bernstein is easily the most prejudice host of any radio show in Chicago and he has built an audience that believes he is a champion of civil rights and progressives. Quite the trick.

Yes, please!

I also would have accepted Candace Parker.

I want to hear this breeding thing, but I don't have the patience to find it. Somehow, I don't think the typewriter monkeys that are the Score's interns wrote down

Quote:
Hour 2
Today in today's seocnd hour, the boys talked about College basketball. They discussed Steve Alford and the well known Scandle at Iowa. The boys discussed a crude form of racial theory and Dan said he wanted to have sex with black women so he could breed athelts.

I was thinking the same thing. Bernstein is definitely a self parody at this point.

This is bang-on. He's basically North at this point.

Yeah, it was a weird mix. I'm not easily offended, but I have to believe a bunch of listeners were. There's a Christian angle in there somewhere and a possible reluctance to paint a black sexual predator as exactly what he is. And amongst all of that, bernstein throws out a thought about his regret in not impregnating a black woman. A joke, I know. But it was just strange. And it obviously had to offend somebody. He's the guy switching back and forth between offensive humor and Very Important Radio. And that takes a deft touch that he definitely lacks.

Well, Pierce is the easy and justified target. There's really no argument to be made against Pierce; his transgression is self-evident. Alford's transgressions are less obvious, which is why I think Bernstein approaches the Alford story so ferociously.

I do agree that it's a little weird to be talking about Alford with so much else going on.

Again, the guy just got hired to one of the four or five premium jobs in college coaching. I have no issue with them digging this stuff up and going over it. Especially when Alford is glossing over the facts at a press conference.

But this isn't a big story. He's been coaching since the incident at Iowa. It isn't like he was banished and now UCLA is resurrected him. Cover the hiring, bash Alford, and move along.

Armstrong, Penn State, and CTE are huge national news and I would bet that the majority of listeners would prefer not to have a show so focused on even those admittedly big stories. You would think a station who's marketing department long sold it as "local" while bashing ESPN, i.e. Mike & Mike, for their Jets coverage in this market would understand that.

I agree with all of this, but then how do you explain the fact that this show trounced ESPN 1000 in the ratings. Is it all due to the fact that CJH was completely unlistenable? I mean I know I went from listening to B&B fairly regularly to never during the Sandusky story, but I am pretty sure I am the exception not the rule.

If danny is going to be so dead-set on mixing the serious with off-color humor, he should go get some old tapes of Steve Dahl from the early 80s and see how it's done. But I'm not really sure it's something that can be learned. As obnoxious as he could be, there was something endearing about Dahl and that's why he has a listener base that will follow him to a pay-for-podcast. li'l danny's core following seems to be a bunch of douchebags that want bernstein's approval of their own intelligence.

Well, I think listening becomes habitual. For the most part, I think you're either an ESPN guy or a WSCR guy, the Peep's Revolution notwithstanding. I may turn bernstein off when he goes Sanduskying, but I'm not switching over to ESPN. I usually go to music and after awhile switch back to see if they've moved on to anything I'm interested in.

Yeah a big part of my listening to sports talked stopped since I don't drive to work anymore. Now I just go to pandora or a podcast. Not really worth going through the aggrivation just to listen to mediocre sports thoughts.
