I see no reason to have Valbuena on this team. I would be thrilled to see him gone and let Vitters go every day at 3B.

I thought they gave Vitters a pretty fair chance to show what he could do, and it wasn't good. Perhaps he needs more help at AAA before he's ready or perhaps he will never be very good. But I think he made it clear that he wasn't up to performing at the big league level at this point.

I choose Valebuena. I think he is a pretty good glove man and despite his 1st game,I think he has a chance to be a decent hitter. I don't mind calling up youngsters but last year,Vitters looked terrible. If Valebuena gets about 30-40 games and still is hitting .200,than might as well call Vitters up. Still plenty of season left for Vitters to fail or not.

I have no idea why Vitters isn't at 3rd every day. I just can't believe he couldn't be as good as Valbuena. I'd like to see him get a full time chance and find out if he can actually play. Then if he sucks, you can release him.

I think the real problem is Ian Stewart. He'll be given the job as soon as he is healthy. Theo and Jed really want something out of that trade.

Vitters was overmatched and needs to go back to AAA and put up solid numbers and wait for an opportunity. Valbuena at least plays D which Vitters doesn't. If Stewart comes back and blows and if Valbuena continues to not hit, Vitters (assuming he is raking at AAA) will get his chance.

It's a shame Junior Lake got hurt in Sprint Training because he shows some potential too.

I haven't given up on Vitters but he was terrible last year after the call-up.

Vitters is completely overmatched at the major league level. His approach sucks and major league pitchers easily carve him up. He needs to work on being more selective and not swing at so many pitchers pitches. It's not an easy thing to change and chances are he will never be an everyday player. Of course the fact that he's not a very good defensive third baseman doesn't help either.

I still think they should move Barney to SS and Castro to third.

Might as well put Vitters there and get that over with.

Valbuena = Vitters = Stewart = Lillibridge = sucky baseball players = not 3B prospect of the future

In a few months, 3B will be occupied by Junior Lake or Christian Villanueva.

Wayne Randazzo, who I think has a very good knowledge of the Cubs system spoke of Junior Lake probably "never contributing much at the big league level"

Thats a shame

Time to start getting Castro ready to make the throw from 3rd.....Baez will be here to man SS soon enough.

Keith Law says Lake has terrible baseball instincts and isn't a good fielder. So there's that.

no disprect to Law, but has he really spent much time watching the minor leaguers?

Put Baez at third, keep Castro at short.

Castro has superior range. Baez is projected to fill out a bit more...better body type for 3B.

Ok do that then. I think we just solved this....time to cut Vitters and bring up Baez

Well, no.

While I think Vitters cannot prove anything more in AAA, Baez has never been above A ball. I'd like him to at least get some seasoning on the Smokies or ICubs...give him the Starlin Castro treatment only if he is stellar. Baez didn't do so hot when he was promoted to Daytona last season.

Also, dumb to cut Vitters after 99 major league AB's.

Jeez. Alright then. Bring back Jake Fox to play 3B until Baez is ready. And push Vitters out into the middle of a lake on a barge and then light it on fire with a flaming arrow.

Trout and Rizzo were awful when they got their first taste of action in the majors. I say give him the opportunity to play every day by June. At worst he sucks and you know he isn't in your future.

Well, he spent time watching Lake in the AFL and spring training. Also has kept connections to several pro and amateur scouts. Not saying Law's word is the Gospel, but he is a highly regarded scout/writer.
