Quote:
CHICAGO (AP) — Film critic Roger Ebert says he has cancer again and is scaling back his movie reviews while undergoing radiation.

In a blog post, the 70-year-old said he'll take a "leave of presence."

The veteran critic has previously battled cancer in his thyroid and salivary glands and lost the ability to speak and eat after surgery.

In a lengthy essay posted late Tuesday, Ebert says the latest cancer was discovered after a "painful fracture" that made it difficult for him to walk. The Pulitzer Prize winner was hospitalized late last year with a hip fracture.

Ebert writes he's "not going away." Instead, he'll write select movie reviews while leaving the rest of the work to a team of writers.

Siskel was the better reviewer of the two. But this is still a bummer.

This

Still, hope it goes back into remission for his sake.

Completely agree. I stopped following him on Twitter because of his politics, but I still like him as a writer.

For whatever reason, I'm really bummed out about this. I think it's because I've been a reader of his reviews since I first started reading newspapers when I was a kid and a watcher of Sneak Previews on Channel 11 back in the day.

I know his fight with cancer doesn't have anything to do with age, but it makes me feel old. Hard to explain.

This is how I felt seeing Derrick Coleman and Glenn Robinson at the tournament over the weekend

Pretty much how I feel.

Wonder if Ryan Dunn's fanboys will make fun of this on twitter again.

I read the news today and got upset. I loved the Siskel & Ebert show. Just like many mentioned here, I have been reading his reviews for a long time. I hope he can fight this off and come back as strong as ever. I just read some producer wants to make a movie of his life. I think Hollywood would love it.

They would be stupid, but Ebert's comments about Dunn were "go out of your way to be a dick" territory

He was certainly looking for a reaction with his comments.

Usually the sequel is worse than the original.

Seeing deaths door daily tends to diminish the drive to criticize. He hasn't seen a movie he wouldn't give three stars to since his cancer.

He saves his criticism for video games now.

Cancer sucks.

not entirely true but he certainly gives a lot of passes these days to movies he would've torched 15 years ago.

siskel was a better critic; ebert is a better writer.
