Interesting in the fact that two of the greatest Rap acts ever are not listed
I know stuff like that is subjective but to not name Beastie Boys in either 1988 or even more importantly 1989 is total and complete bullshit
Plus to only list Chuck D as an honorable mention is deserving of giving the guy writing it a swift kick in the nuts.

I think the singular thing is important here.

No Wu Tang love either, which is insane because they ran shit from 93-97

So I think Public Enemy, Wu, and Beasties got screwed out of this contest.

No, they're right its 2003, but I see where you're coming from

DMX being the best rapper alive is like Darwin Barney being the best baseball player alive.

Now Boilermaker Rick is gonna come up in this piece and tell us how music always gets better so LilWayne and Drake are better than Rakim and L.L.

Thank God for Kendrick Lamar. Maybe a sort of renaissance is in it's early stages...

I saw Drake and Lil Wayne on the list more than 2pac and others. That just made me dismiss the entire thing.

As long as Nelly is still making music rap is in good hands.

It gives me something new I want to really listen to. I love dem strippaz too but it's not great music. "On My Mama" used to be catchy and rare but now you are considered a great rapper when you can make an album full of similar tracks. No lyrics just a hook.

A lot of people put out better music. Didn't Eminem and Kanye put out something a couple of those years. By default they should win. There isn't a rapper alive other than Silk the Shocker that I hate more than Lil Wayne.

Yeah, I guess there were decent albums in those years.

Lil Wayne: Frog voice, doesnt rhyme, no substance, and plays fake guitar

Just crazy that people like it

Plays fake guitar
Rides fake skateboard
Wears fake lady jeans known as Jeggings
Makes up fake words in his raps in order to create rhyme

That's where he should be. Not only were his "lyrics" terrible but he could NEVER RHYME ON BEAT. That shit drove me crazy. The thought of it still does.

Yeah. At first I thought he was doing it on purpose. But it turned out bad nearly every song, so I think he may have had an inner ear problem...

It was nice to see redman get on there for 1992.... at least from my point of view (where i got into rap underground-first starting in 98) red is one of the often-forgotten rap gods for his stuff in the mid-late 90s. i was a pudgy 11 year old kid in a BART SIMPSON: RADICAL DUDE shirt in suburban chicago so i can't speak to redman's effect on "the scene" but in terms of pure lyricism, he doesn't really become full-on REDMAN til dare iz a darkside in 1994, which is just a fantastic fucking album through and through.

it was also funny to see the first repeat guy be run of run dmc, then biggie gets it twice.... then they mistakenly put eminem in 2000 (cuz trust me, 99 was the year for him. that 2nd LP sucked and wasn't nearly the phenomenon that was the slim shady LP which was pretty much the best white rap LP ever all things (commercial) considered.... but yeah then lil wayne gets it twice and drake gets it twice and of course ecko is soooooo COMPLEX that they gotta have that kamar lendrick dude on it for this year.

technically, since about ~1995 or so the best rapper alive has been aceyalone. i know that there isn't necessarily a barrel of cash behind rhymes like "my architechnique sparks the dark streets of your resting grounds / i suggest that you warn your town" but hey, for what it's worth the word architechnque directly inspired the creation of the word sinicalypse, who the other day was in a car with 92.3 blaring on a stock system freestyling to himself something like "i ain't the realest alive cuz i know where a pound of coke's at / never went for a drive and said OH SHIT LOJACK!!!!" and that is rap excellence.

btw personal promise if i ever break my dumbass cycles and learn how to live a life i'll teabag that macklemore clown. i'm sick of his song in the form of aural graffiti.

obligatory aceyalone spam. some dude got ~37mins of one of his sets and its on youtube for ~2 years adn it's got under 200 views. this is why i've seen the guy ~8-9 times over the years and it doesnt get old like seeing del live. granted it's live rap, which intriniscally sucks, but like, you take what you can get.
