Oh yea.

Bought a bottle for my buddy and I last year. He still says it's 1 of the best he's had.

It's definitely in the team photo of my favorite beers. I have only one behind my bar, and it is from 2008.

Ticketed will make this go so much better... I would even take a day off work in order to support a ticketed model. I still wouldn't want to be in the fourth group though... they have a way of screwing these things up every year.... although I would gladly take my chances. :)

Sounds interesting but there is something with the bourbon barrel beers that I just don't like. My friend gave me Backwoods for Xmas and I had one last night and there is something in it that kept me from really loving it. I'll be on the lookout for these but my expectations are mixed.

I have found that it depends on on how the beer actually acquires its bourbon accent. If it is properly aged in authentic barrels then I like it but if its infused with bourbon soaked oak chips or even a splash of bourbon then I usually don't care for it.

Picked one up today at the Binny's in Downers Grove. They received a shipment of two cases this afternoon. They started handing them out at 5:00, and they were gone by 5:08.

Have you tried the Lexington Bourbon Barrel Ale?

I heard they brewed three times as much as last year.

I heard the same thing. Went up there last Wednesday after work, and got in line around 6:45pm Eastern. After my 10 second wait for the guy in front of me, I got my 12. Already had a room reserved, so I went out to the Hop Cat with some friends, but if they did this the same way next year, I'd probably just turn right around and drive back. The ticketing was a mess, but the actual purchasing process could not have run more smoothly.

Hey Beer snobs... I love me beer. All kinds of beer. Last couple times I went out to some place that has tons of brands I tried a couple double IPA's. I think thats right? Anyway, one each on different occasions. Holy crap they smelled and tasted like cat piss to me. I have had mainstream pale ales like goose island and sierra and they were ok I guess. Are these crafted brews purposely way over the top to taste like that?

It's tough to answer that without knowing what beers you consumed.

Well he did say he had some double IPAs... they are usually much hoppier, and the hops give beer a bitterness and crispness that is very distinctive.

It could have been a problem with the place serving the beer. Maybe they don't clean out the lines as often as they should. They have Fat Tire on tap where I bowl, but the lines don't get cleaned enough, and the beer doesn't taste good. I have voiced my concern, but it has fallen on deaf ears. So, I don't buy Fat Tire anymore.

Cat pee smell is usually associated with Simcoe hops. Maybe you were drinking a Dogfishead 90 minute?

I meant which brand. An IPA from one company could be completely different than one from another company. What kind of hops? How many IBUs?

I really don't remember. Was hoping it isn't all the double IPA's. I will have to keep closer track. One thing about the place that made me kinda irked was after one sip and smell I said no thanks something else please. Still charged me. Oh well should have sampled the little cup I guess?

Have you ever had beers by Great Lakes Brewing Co.? They are in Cleveland, and they make some tasty beers.

Lol never. My neighbor is an IC light guy though. Haven't have great lakes yet. Going to Monterey/San Jose next Friday for a week. Plan to try some good beers out west.

You can't go wrong with these three brewers:

Stone
Lagunitas
Green Flash

Between my wife, my mother in law, and I, we scored 9 bottles today.

One place had a two bottle limit per customer, but he sold three to my wife. There really is nothing better than being a hot chick with big jugs.

Another question. Who the hell waits for one bottle of beer anyway? And who only drinks one bottle of beer? :?

First of all, you asked two questions.

The people that drove to the Founder's brewery for the release party could pick up more than one. My buddy got 12, in addition to whatever he drank on tap.

It's the liquor stores here that limit customers to one or two, or sometimes three. They only get one or two cases, and I assume they set a limit, so one person doesn't buy them all, with the intent to resale at a profit.

pittmike wrote:

When we do decide to crack one open, my wife and I will share a 12 oz. bottle. We can always crack a bottle of something else when it's finished.

Got two more this morning. One at the Binny's in St. Charles, and one in Naperville.

Chinook hops are associated with "catty" qualities. Simcoe is pine and resin like qualities.

I figured Chinook was more of a bittering hop and Simcoe closer to an aroma hop. 8)
