Before your time but I loved Johnny Carson in his prime. Letterman's humor is very in sync with my own but his politics is making the show unwatchable.

I very seldom watch any late night tv anymore.

Jimmy's pretty old, so I'm sure he remembers him.

There's Johnny Carson, then everyone else. Jimmy Fallon doesn't deserve to be The Tonight Show host.

I like every guy that hosted a late night show

Its the pinnacle of the industry for comedians so they all did something right at some point

Scorehead, I've never been a Jimmy Fallon fan, and I didn't care for Jimmy dating all the way back to when he was on "Saturday Night Live" with executive producer/creator Lorne Michaels. Michaels also executive produces Fallon's current show "Late Night" during the week.

That being said, there's a reason why NBC feels Fallon is the man to take over the "Tonight Show" franchise, and you have to look no further than the newest rival in the 10:35P time slot, Jimmy Kimmel. NBC feels that Fallon can attract the younger demographic and it turns out Kimmel's own show on ABC is huge with younger viewers considered advertiser friendly since moving 30 minutes earlier back in January. I think that's a big reason why Fallon is moving up.

According to Johnny's Wikipedia page, there were infidelities dating all the way back to his first marriage in 1948 to a woman named Jody Wolcott. Johnny's marriages to multiple women were huge fodder for the tabloids back in the day.

This link mentions wife beating BUT by his 1st wife (who was broke) & Truman Capote. He was a notorious gossiper who was friends with one of Carson's wives. I would give Johnny a pass on this one.

I've heard many stories of Johnny being a really angy drunk and becoming violent with his wives. There were witnesses to it. It's kind of one of those word of mouth things. Like Brickhouse and the coffee table...

Even Chevy Chase? And who can forget, "Are you ready for Magic?"

I've heard he was a "mean" drunk, but nobody went as far as "physically violent". But there's a thin line between those, so it's quite possible.

Amended statement

I like every guy who hosted a late night show that lasted more than one season.

But actually, I do like both those guys, just not as late night hosts.

Most want to forget those 2 hosting late night shows back in the '90s.

Does anybody remember Joan Rivers' talk show, when she went to FOX? Carson never forgave her for going against him (she was his fill-in host before then).

He never spoke to her again. She idolozed him and he treated her like shit because she wanted something of her own. Not a good guy...

Speaking of the Tonight Show, last year I saw David Brenner in person. He was at St. Charles Zanies. I took a picture with him. He was pretty good but it's hard to believe he is in his 70's. He has been a guest or host like 170 times.

When I was a kid, it was boring as all fuck. Then Leno took over and I thought it may be cool. Nope. He forgot how to be funny.

I kinda dig Fallons steelo. If he brings the Roots with and makes them the Tonight Show band, I may watch occasionally...

My folks got me a t.v. and a clock radio for Christmas in 1985 for my bedroom. I watched a lot of Carson and Monday Night Football.

IBM Presents...You Make The Call!

I still use the clock radio to this day...the t.v. is in the garage.

Like many comedians, Johnny Carson was an unhappy person. He was the greatest talk show host in the history of TV though.
