Should have done it in the spring. Now they just need to get their appetites up so they can eat that contract and be done with this hack.

They are lying. They will trot him out again in a week or so when they think the heat is off. They think this pudwack has some value. Makes me think they do not have a clue. If I can see he sucks cow cock why can they not.

A (good) team tried to trade for him. He had at least SOME value. It was worth trotting him out to see if he could hold it together enough to get traded for anything. Obviously that hasn't worked, so they can either eat the entire contract or pitch him every so often to see if he can figure it out again. They are doing the right thing here, IMO.

Leaving him in the role for an extended period of time would have been frustrating for me.

Then the POS got on twitter and bid farewell and the trade fell thru. He has zero value. NONE.

Didn't the trade fall apart because the Cubs didn't like what they saw in his med report? I know Marmol leaked it early, but I don't think that's the reason it fell apart. Could be wrong.

I'd like to know WTF happened to the Marmol slider? Given that all his pitches are called for him, why all the fastballs? Yes they want him to throw strikes, but his slider must be gone or something because that is his outpitch.

Anyway, bottom line is Hendry is to blame for this as he gave Marmol the big contract including 9.25M this season.

As to trade value? Right now, he has absolutely zero until he rediscovers his slider. And even then, they'd be lucky to get even 1M of salary relief let alone a bucket of balls.

As a Hendry-era player with Hendry era money the fanbase will forgive the money if they just cut bait and lose this guy.
Its the same way I feel about Soriano.
End the era. Cut bait. A couple million. Big deal. They want to spend 500 million on a fucking parking garage.

Should be interesting tomorrow. The crowd should boo the shit out of Marmol, Dale, and even the GM.

Anyone have a scouting report on this Fujikawa dude? What's his repertoire/ out pitch?
He looks like a surfer dude.

Found this

Quote:
he’s got a splitter, a major league fastball, and impeccable control. He’s never once walked as many as three per nine, and his career walk rate in Japan was closer to two per nine. If you were looking for a comp, you might look at players like Joel Peralta (32% split fingers, 90.3 mph fastball), J.J. Putz (23.3% split gingers, 92.9 mph fastball), especially since both pitchers have great control and iffy fastball velocities to go along with their split fingers.

The Joel Peralta comparison might be best, given the fact that Peralta has been excellent for some time but has not been trusted with the full-time closer role for more than a short-term stint. Peralta also has double-digit rise on his fastball, which helps contrast with the sinking movement of the splitter.

Cool, thanks for that. It will probably take a few trips through each team for the league to get a read on him. Especially as a closer... extreme SSS. after that, the good Japanese relievers like Sasaki and Uehara have made the adjustments to the adjustments.

He was an All-Star closer in Japan, so at least he's used to the role. Again, the team is gonna have a losing record in 2013, so even if he does a great job, chances are it won't matter all that much. The team isn't likely to hand over all that many games ahead in the 9th. A 30 save year would be great.

You are correct. I was a little woozy after a sixteen hour work shift. My mistake.

very simple - hitters stopped swinging at it. when he was at his best a couple years ago as a setup guy he was fooling the shit out of everyone throwing that slider and guys were jumping out of their shoes trying to swing at that shit as it bounced in the dirt. eventually the league caught up with that and simply stopped swinging at it. when you all of a sudden aren't able to throw your out pitch as a strike and the hitters stop swinging at it, you're fucked.

True. If you did not take a bat to the plate with you he will walk you.He cannot throw a fastball for a strike. He blows.

Everyone is so excited Marmol is out that they are overlooking Fuji giving up three runs against ATL in the 8th last night.

Out with the bad, in with the new.... bad?

This is mostly a moot thread because Im not sure the Cubs will ever have a lead in the 9th inning the rest of the year to warrant a save situation.

What in the ever loving hell is this?
Quote:
After hearing the boos in his first appearance at home this season, Marmol shared his plan for the future.

‘‘I’m going to put us in the World Series and make the fans happy again,” Marmol said.

In fact, the 30-year-old reliever said the hometown boos didn’t even phase him.

‘‘I don’t even listen,” he said. “I hear the boos, but I don’t take it in a bad way. I can’t worry about that. They pay the money to see us, and they see a player not doing his job. . . . I’m not the first one or the last one. I’m fine. I’m trying to get people out.’’

Maybe he meant he would be pitching for the team the Cubs would be facing.

Nothing because he would be cut and there is no more Chicago media to talk to would be nice.

pretty much anything other than he is going to take them to the World Series.

I mean come on. Say it doesn't bother him. Say he is going to work hard to get the closer role back. But don't say you are going to take the Cubs to a WS. That just makes him look like a dumb ass.

BTW, does everyone forget how Marmol was the MVP for the 07 and 08 teams?

I know they didnt close the deal, but the hate for him seems odd to me.

I was on the record not liking him then. He's a converted position player who doesn't have the mental makeup to be a closer or even a pitcher for that matter. I said that at the time when he looked awesome. It doesn't take a genius to see these things.

I don't hate the guy but he can't throw strikes or get anyone out. Why is he on a major league roster right now? 07/08 was a long time ago.
