Eh. The middle set of tees, usually, is fine for most golfers. Even if you shoot 110 or 120, you make squib a handful on the fairway or off the tee, but for the most part its because you hit the ball distance wise ok, just not straight, and obviously the short game sucks. If I played from the "womens tees" on some holes it might help me out a bit. But I'd still need to chip and putt, and/or get a second shot shot onto the green to improve my score.

The real problem is these two things.
1) The people who play from the trips, and their drive barely gets past the ladies tee. Know your game. If your drive is 200, 220 yards, play from one of the middle tees. If you can hit it 250+, play the back tees

2) Rangers who refuse to FORCE anybody to pick up their ball or play from a forward tee. Sure, they talk to them and they play that hole quick, then its slow. The reason I ALWAYS hear is that, "well we don't want to piss a group off." No, you just want to keep getting free golf you old geezer and you don't want to ruffle any feathers. What about the 6 groups behind them that have to play a 5+ hour round because these guys can't keep pace?

GEnerally I go out early on Saturdays, so this usually isn't a problem. I know courses make their money on the weekends, and when I do go out after say 10am on a Sat or Sun, its ALWAYS a 5hour round. They charge enough money that people should expect a nice pace to the game. If I could potentially get kicked off the course for driving too close to the green, then the 4 guys in front of me who are hitting their 4th shot on a 400 yard par 4 and they are still 100 yards short of the green almost every hole should be moved along or kicked off as well.

Walked 18 holes on Saturday. It felt a LOT warmer out than it really was. I was going stir crazy and had to get outside for a while.

Had a few good shots, but played pretty poorly overall. Then again, it was a shitty course in March and I hadn't swung a club since January. So, it was decent practice.

Pretty cool idea here: http://chicagoduffer.com/2013/03/25/test-out-new-drivers-through-golfredefined-com/

Pay $25 a month and get to try out any driver you want. Kind of like the NetFlix of golf.

Go to Golfsmith, Dick's, or PGA Superstore, etc. and they have demo clubs that you can hit.

Rangers? We don't even have rangers anymore. You have to call the clubhouse and bitch and then they send someone out.

I played in a foursome last April. It was a Friday morning, and it was a chilly start. St. Andrew's has 36 holes, and it looked like we were the only people on the Jemsek course. We get to hole seven or eight, and we encounter the groundskeepers. They proceed to follow us from hole to hole, and kept the mowers running as we were trying to hit. After three holes of this, I called the clubhouse, and voiced my displeasure. He says, "what do you want me to do about it?" I said, "how about sending them to one of the seventeen unoccupied holes?" Fucking dipshit.

Got out for the first real round of the year Saturday. I went out last weekend as well, but that was more or less just practice. 41 on the front 9, 50 on the back. 3 holes on the back 9 were just awful. Everything else wasn't too bad.

My friend got brand new Nike irons, so he gave me his 3 year old Cleveland irons. I was hitting the hell out of them. Anywhere from 15-30 yards farther depending on the club and the wind. On a 162 yard par 3 (that was downwind), I hit a 7iron and was just off the green pin high. With my old clubs I would have at least hit a 5, maybe even a 4. Later on I hit a 4 iron almost 200 yards. I know the wind helped in both instances, but still. I was amazed to see how much better I was hitting my irons on Saturday.

My last 2 iron sets were Cleveland. Solid sticks. Which model do you have?

Got in the first round of the season today. Went out to Countryside, got there and it statted raining and was about 45 degrees, but the rain stopped pretty quickly and it warmed up to 65. But, the winds were gusting at 40 mph which was crazy. At least 3-4 par 4s were absolutely unreachable in 2. It was the first round with my new irons. Shot GREAT, scored a 90, didn't take a single mulligan. 3 putted 3 straight birdie tries. Lost several more shots around and on the green which is totally to be expected since short game takes the most time to come back every year. Easily struck the ball good enough to score 80ish. Between driver, 3wood and my new set of irons I might've had 1-2 bad shots all day. 47 on the front and 43 on the back.

Can't wait for it to get nice out so I can spend a few times at practice green working exclusively on short game.

Sounds like you played the Prairie course. Can definitely be challenging when the wind kicks up out there. I am hoping
to hit some golf balls this week if lucky. Still haven't gotten out and I think I am getting signed up for a Scramble
tournament in early May so running out of time here.

Played 36 holes this weekend. Only played about 7 of them well :(

The wind on the back 9 on Saturday was insane. The last 2-3 holes were downright unplayable.

yea wasn't that wind ridiculous? On one par 3 that was about 140 yards I aimed 25 feet left of the green and it still ended up 10 yards off the green to the right. Learned my lesson on a later hole where I was 80 yards from the green and aimed my gap wedge a good 20 yards left of the green and it landed 3 feet from the cup.

A couple par 4's should've been par 5s for the day. Went perfect driver/3 wood and was still 50 yards short of the green.

On the plus side I think this was the first round I ever played where I didn't lose a single ball all day.

No, the prairie wasn't open for the season yet. Played the traditional. Greens were surprisingly fast, probably because the grass hadn't grown in yet.

Gonna go look at putters today. I'm thinking about getting the Odyssey Versa black and white blade putter. I'm also going to replace the grip with one of those huge oversized grips. I figure as a hockey player that will feel real comfortable since it will be roughly the width of a hockey stick shaft.

Anyone here use the big putter grip?

I have tried them and considering it myself. Like the fact that your wrists can't break down, just kind of tough getting used to the feel and the weight of the putter.

I'm below average at golf. Probably shoot in the 110's(legitimately). I write down my score in the low 90's though.

I use a midsize and it definitely takes the hands out of the stroke.

I got a Super Stroke putter grip when they were the new thing probably 3 or 4 years ago. I put it on one of
my Scotty Camerons and I liked the idea and feel of it but then kind of fell out of love with it. I may go back to it this
year and try it some more. I usually buy tennis racquet grip and wrap my own putter grip that way. That usually
wears out by the end of the season and I start over the next year. Kind of a tradition for me to know golf is
back. I think they have improved the Super Stroke grip though with colors and maybe the material. The one
I had was an off gray color and hard as a rock. Nice on shorter putts but had a hard time getting feel from
distance with it.

rockbottomgolf.com is running a pretty solid sale this week. 15% off plus free shipping on orders over $199.

http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/

I swear by Sun Mountain golf bags, but I only have experience with their carry bags. Consider Ogio as well.

Hard to give club advice w/out knowing more about your swing/game, but RBG has TaylorMade Superfast 2.0 drivers/woods/hybrids for $130/110/90 respectively. I've hit the fairway wood and I really like it. I think Chus has the driver, maybe he can speak to that.

Re: putters - If you have access to a PGA Tour Superstore, spend an hour there trying out all the different models/styles. The practice green is HUGE. If you just want to pick something up, RBG has the Cleveland Classic line for $60. Awesome milled face putters that favorably compares to much higher-priced milled putters.

Just my 2 cents.
