See, this is where you and I differ.

Id just assume they were in awe of my good looks

Those looks feel very different...

To be honest, Id probably engage people and get in trouble.

Im not trying to be crass here, but the way police look at minorities alone is crazy to me.

I feel like they are after me already. Cant even imagine giving them what they see as another reason

Just reading YouTube comments reminds me of that fact. You guys should have seen the comments under the Michigan Avenue flash mob news story a couple of weeks ago. There were a lot of "Those monkeys need to be eradicated" comments. Hard to believe there aren't several more with that opinion. Those thoughts just aren't out in the open anymore.

I couldn't disagree more. Progress is being made everyday. Our kids won't have to experience many of the same issues we've had and our grandchildren will have it even better. Why are you always so pessimistic? Please don't tell me you're being a realist because that's b.s.

I get the "I'm not sure what you are, i just know you're not all white" look when I'm walking home from some of the cops in the next village over. They are some of the most racialy profiling sons of guns you'll ever meet...

Every time I see someone pulled over I can predict in my head what color they are.

If they're white, they are still in the car

If they are black/mexican they are out of the car being searched.

Im right about 98% of the time.

I always think to myself, "Id be in jail or dead"

Not that this makes it better, but YouTube commenters dont represent the general populace.

Honestly, a lot of the comments I saw reminded me of some of the stuff Chas says about Muslims. Made me very uncomfortable to read. And it also dawned on me that if Chas had any kind of power in this country, he'd be a dangerous motherfucker for all the wrong reasons.

I'm also saying that Chas unfortunately isn't the only Chas.

I'd be willing to bet you Budweiser's to Heineken's that most of those comments you read are just from people looking to get a response. Some of them may even be black. The country as a whole is entirely different.

Many people would passionately disagree with that. That's fine, but its not a fact. Just your take.
And many people did in November 2008 and again in November 2012. Thats just one example.

I get your point but it's not entirely true. Obama got a little more than 1/3 or the white vote in 2012. The change in demographics made the difference.

The thing to keep in mind is that a lot of people are still alive that were born in and lived through segregation and the slow process of ending the practice. This had the side effect of teaching racist thoughts that are difficult to overcome. The people my age were lucky enough to never deal with any of that stuff and it's much easier to overcome the social issues that led to racism in the 80s and 90s. Now, I know I'm probably racist about some stuff, and my kids will be even better than me.

That's why it's so dumb that we still have politicians who think that segregation should be legal. The end of segregation is likely the greatest piece of equality legislation since the end of slavery.

In 2012, Obama got the same percentage of the white vote as Bill Clinton.

It always pays to be honest. I ran a red light back in January 2010 trying to get to the pA DoubleDoor show as I was running late. I didn't see the cop and I got pulled over. The cop asked me what color the light was. I looked at him and said, "It was red. I'm sorry." He said, "You're an honest guy. That's a warning...but obey your traffic lights!"

Oh, it has very little to do with race. It has everything to do with the guns they carry.

In 1992 IIRC. In general white men tend to vote republican. Race played a very small role in the overall numbers.

I respectfully disagree. (i'm going to copyright that opening.) I grew up with a racist grandfather in the 70's/80's. My mother wasn't racist, but her view of minorities was at best murky. I lived in mostly white suburban towns and wasn't exposed to any minorities until Jr.High, except for when I visited my family in Chicago. In Chicago gangs ruled the streets and black vs white was all that I saw. However I didn't let my grandfather's racism and my bad experiences in Chicago shape my views of minorities.

Jr.High and highschool I realized how narrow minded my grandfather was and how fear of the other race, led to hatred. Long story short, I chose to not let someone's color effect my decisions and change the way I view them. I broke the racist cycle that my grandfather had continued from his generation. Married a minority and have a beautiful little girl. I have been with my wife for almost ten years and in that ten years I can only remember two times I have experienced any racism. One in a pizza joint in Dekalb, il and the other a supermarket in Alabama. One, by a group of young black men and the other by older white ladies. Offcourse there have been looks by people sometimes and I am sure lots of people have just not said anything, but nothing that I couldn't just brush off as ignorance, like the same ignorance my grandfather possesed. He is dead and his racism died with him. "that's one small leap for man, one giant leap for mankind."
