SS: no
3B: yes, fine.
LF: no
CF: DeJesus is the exact type we're talking about
RF: yes
SP: Shark, Jackson, Garza
So 4-6 million was spent on "guys" like Feldman, Baker and Villanueva.

So the bitching is about 2 spots: 3B and maybe RF.

uh, how about the BULLPEN?!!!

One of the most depressing things about this Cubs team was the whole Marmol situation. I know he is making 10 million dollars but he is just awful. Why even bring him North. Just pay him to go away like Eddie Robinson or Tim Thomas.

Same thing for Soriano. You just got the best possible season you could have out of him last year. There's nowhere to go but down. But at least he could have trade value still.

Soriano can still get you something and is a productive bat. If you pay Soriano to go away who is hitting any HR's for this team? I thought you wanted them to pretend to stay competitive to get more yokels through the gates. Soriano is the embodiment of that plan.

I take it back, I take it back!

Phil, I'm resigned to Soriano being here as he did help. But he's so disliked, if the Cubs launched him and brought up a prospect, they might actually get more gate in his case. I dunno.

I actually think Soriano is pretty well liked and respected in the clubhouse. I mean obviously the guy got totally over payed here and can't hit good pitching, but he has had some reasonably productive years here. That being said I hope they find a way to move him at the deadline.

I'm not sure why you brought up the clubhouse.

Yes, that's 25% of your everyday starters.

Add a professional 3b, RF, and one starting pitcher and the team is a lot better.

They did try to add a professional 3B with Keppinger. It's not their fault the White Sox decided to overpay him.

The failure I guess is their insistence on getting players they want on favorable terms. I think they're in a lose-lose. If they get a guy like Keppinger people will complain how he's overpaid. If they don't get Keppinger they'll complain that we got fucking shitbag Lillibridge.

I never wanted Keppinger. He is wildly overrated.

They could have gotten someone else though. Its not my complaint though. Im just saying I see where the complaint comes from.

no, the insistence is on them being CREATIVE. It's an insistence on the smartest men in the room to exploit stats that allow them to sign free agents that no one else sees having a career year at a bargain rate. It's about constructing a teams of over the hill David Justices on one year deals.

So basically the show has gone downhill since they cant make fun of their co-workers anymore. Real solid foundation for a show to be built on right there.

I once received a warning during a traffic stop for having a Terry Pendleton (Atlanta Braves) Starting Lineup figurine attached to my radar detector. Cop said something like "Here's a warning for your little bobblehead there." Asshole wasn't even right.

The show getting worse and Jason leaving are largely coincidental. For the nth time, Jason was as much a part of the problem as anyone by the end.

Well, I don't agree.

While it's true that Jason supported the narrative (I fucking hate that word now) when it came to certain topics, he brought a lightheartedness and fun element that left with him.

You've been on my channel. The segments about childhood TV shows, barber shops, class field trips, and other offbeat stuff like that were a fun part of the show that just doesn't exist anymore. THAT is what I'm referring to when I say that the show has gotten worse in Goff's absence. The show is pretty much no fun and 100% preaching from the soapbox. Goff added a balance to the show that simply doesn't exist anymore. We may have to agree to disagree on this one.

You have argued your point very well. When you put it that way, hey, you're right, there aren't as many fun tangents as there used to be. I concede.

You're both right. For a long time, Goff was the basis of a lot of the show's comic relief (and provided his share of good sports thoughts too). But by the end of his time here, he was haranguing White Sox no-shows for being racist antisemites. Makes it tough to believe the show went bad because he left. The whole ship started sinking a while ago, and it took everyone down with it.

actually, it really was.

This show could be just like it used to be if it moves back to middays. I've said that for a long time. I don't think we'd get so much 'serious radio' with them out of drive time. Just an opinion, no facts to back it up.

Well, this was 2002. The radar detector was probably 7-8 years old (hand me down from my grandpa). The cop was around a corner and hidden. Detector did not pick him up until we were exposed, and by then, it was too late. As I'm pulling over (it's three buddies and me, on the way to the Dells for a weekend), my buddy says "I guess it's a bad time to tell you I've got weed in the trunk." We also have four cases of beer in there. None of us were 21 yet. Luckily the cop didn't ask to search the vehicle. Speeding ticket, and we were on our way.

Les is great, but he did get way bent out of shape about something that ultimately was a running joke. It didn't exactly just slide off his back....

Don't take that to heart Brogue. What COF is describing was at best 10% of what made the show funny. The only co-workers they really made fun of were Jesse Rodgers, Mike North, and of course Murph, all of whom have been gone since 2009. The show was still funny well after those guys' departures. COF's premise is terribly flawed.

You know why there's no lighthearted moments anymore? It's because all the people they could poke at are either gone or off limits. No Mike North. No George Hoffman. No Mike Murphy. No JESSIE ROGERS. No Julie Sweica or Dan Jiggetts or Tommy T-Dub Williams or Dan Zampillo, count burritoula. All they've got left to laugh at in-house is Les. Mac isn't a real target anymore BECAUSE of Jason. Meat is far too sensitive. Mully and Hanley are too vanilla to go after. This is a large reason they're just not as funny anymore. It's all reserved for the callers.
So basically the show has gone downhill since they cant make fun of their co-workers anymore. Real solid foundation for a show to be built on right there.

I'll flaw your premise...

OKC, some of my favorite moments (discussing Circus Jerkus for example) came at shorty Hoffman's expense. I truly miss Norht, because he gave them show topics for free every day.
